I would prefer this is done now.
Can we just call him Gilbert going forward? @RobertHunter you’re a genius
This is my favorite
Yeah no shit dude it’s why you’re haunting the hallways here like Assper the Friendly Ghost.
Liked the episode. I live in Howard County; the courses were a good selection (for non-Marylanders, Greystone is a pretty decent hike north and west of Baltimore but worth the drive- until recently it was part of Golfweek’s 10 Best You Can Play) of what the area has to offer. Not the best by any means, but decent. Forest Park and Rocky Point are what they are; muni courses that are as much of the lifeblood of the game as anything.
Solid job lads. Unfortunately the pro tours have bailed on the DC/Baltimore region; it’s either hike up to Atlantic City or down to Williamsburg VA to see the LPGA, or go to The Greenbrier in the fall but people still play the game whenever it’s marginally playable.
Natty Boh is a Baltimore version of Beast, Schaefer/Hamm’s (kids ask your parents) or Natty Light. Better than dying of thirst.
I love seeing “1 Hidden Reply” and then a @KVV comment with tons of likes on it. Watch out, there’s been another murder in Baltim-
That makes sense. I wasn’t sure how the timing of your Reno trip and Baltimore lined up.
However, I would urge you and @Tron to take some time at the next Pro Traj Holdings Executive retreat (on some private island of course) to reflect on the importance of these small muni courses around the country. They are the lifeblood of golf for some areas and are arguably more important than the local country clubs. They might not be as big and beautiful as places you are use to, but what they lack in amenities, they make up for in rugged charm. @MerchCzar and @Randy shouldn’t be penalized for playing a small muni, but celebrated for bring attention to a course that despite any shortcomings, is doing great things for the local golf community. In the spirit of the season, I would urge you to not just take the money away, but actually match dollar for dollar match it so they can have a little extra to contribute to the next local community in need. (of course you probably should have done that yesterday so it would have been a 2019 tax deduction…)
This is true when both parties are anonymous. But when one isn’t, it creates an obvious power imbalance. If you’re gonna brag about the place you live and shit on my place, that’s fine. But it’s a little silly when your place gets to remain anonymous while my place has news stories and podcast and major TV shows that can be linked in this thread, isn’t it? I’m not naive about Baltimore. But the fact that someone would come on this thread and say “of course you are only critical of the police” is laughable. Talk about naïveté. It’s almost as if someone has done zero reading on the topic yet is hoping to bullshit their way through the exam.
Is par not good enough?
I agree @pinhigh27. These are the kind of things I would expect the boys to run by us, which is why it was so shocking to see our trust betrayed yet again. One has to wonder what would happen if we didn’t keep such a tight leash on them.
If you’re arguing about Baltimore (and I agree with you on this about needing nuance and understanding) then using whataboutism “oh well your place sucks too” is also a bad argument, right?
I guess my point is, you can easily make your point without ad hominem or whataboutism attacks by simply adding the nuance that you have added and I’m sure you spoke about in the interview.
Baltimore has a bad reputation, whether that’s fair or not should be the debate. New York has that reputation in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Chicago has/had that reputation as well. It takes effort to reverse stereotypes and like I said earlier strapped and other pieces do a good job of getting that moving.
(I do think that ED makes some fair points in general, but the way in which he makes those points makes him lose a lot of credibility and makes it hard for anyone to agree with him)
Considering any money won in the mega bonus would be going directly back to supporting the local community, maybe think of ways the mega bonus could be used to help even more. How about making a rule that if the course rating is to low they have to do something extra to benefit the community. Maybe part of the mega bonus goes towards the green fees for a couple of local juniors. Or maybe they buy a round of drinks for all of the course employees.
You know, this character immediately before this scene, used a giant squid-like alien creature to read the mind of someone to determine his true identity.
Through S2 episode 3 in the wire. Season one was incredible, season 2 is off to an odd start.
But again, the initial discussion was about Baltimore’s complicated reality, and your boy ED introduced his own mythical fairy land as a point of comparison. We can’t actually compare the two because one exists in the real world and the other currently exists in between ED’s ears.
I didn’t bring another magical place into this argument. Your boy did. And he said as a point of comparison he’d only choose to live in this magical place and not the rat-infested shithole where I live. You want to assume I’m making a broader defense of Baltimore by saying “Whatabout you?” when in fact I was responding to the specific element of his post that said “It’s obvious people are naive and emotional when it comes to their home town, and also I love living in my Ayn Rand collective, which is bliss, unlike Baltimore.”
At this point the only reasonable next step is a duel!
Pick a charity! Pick a course in baltimore!
More words are not going to change opinions!
Hope you have a happy new year!
Why are you calling him “my boy”? Because I said he may have made a couple points that weren’t bad - just he has no idea what nuance is? I don’t care for ED but in some poetic sense his reputation precedes him and any take he has gets shit on, much like Baltimore.
I’ve said multiple times that the issue is that there is a reputation and reputations are hard to change. Prior to Strapped I would have said “why the hell would I want to go to Baltimore, except if the Yankees were playing the orioles” after it I understand that there is a lot more. The general media coverage is not kind to the city, that takes a lot of time to change.
I understand getting pissed, I would too if I were you, but you could make your point without any personal attacks.
