I think you could rig a potato gun with them and really f with a neighbor

Back to golf…

Other area courses that are fun to play and not that expensive:

  1. Bulle Rock: Playing a Pete Dye design that hosted majors (LPGA) for $65 is an absolute steal. Worth the drive to Havre de Grace.

  2. Woodlands: Baltimore county course that has quirky greens but a fun layout. Kept in much better shape than its sister course Diamond Ridge but easy to do 36 here if you want an inexpensive day without driving.

  3. Waverly Woods: 25-30 mins from the city. A great value. Fun course kept in excellent shape most of the year.

  4. Pine Ridge: If you can get one of the first few tee times and avoid POP issues, it’s super fun. Could be great with some tree removal and actual marshals but won’t likely ever change.

  5. Fox Hollow: My favorite budget course in the area. Johnny Unitas used to play here all the time and is buried next door. Not difficult but super fun. Can play without losing a ball and shoot good score and still feel challenged.

I didn’t find the paintings to be weird. I actually liked them.

it’s on my list to visits and perhaps stay when i’m in Baltimore next.

Really awesome views of the reservoir at Pine Ridge! Spot on about pace of play, but would still recommend. I would love to have a go at Fox Hollow again. Only played it once during a cold fall rain. Lost a few balls because of the downed leaves but I think it would be blast in nice conditions.

I played Pine Ridge with one of my oldest friends last summer. We teed off at 7 AM. Finished at 10:30. One of the best days I’ve had on a golf course ever. Grateful Dead was the playlist.

Couldn’t agree more. The name is literally The Refuge, and yet here we are, with the same bullshit that plagues every social media network.

Heh you could hit always hit up GolfWRX or one of the other dozen mundane golf message boards. I can assure you The Refuge is far and away the most interesting place to hang out if you’re a golf dork. And for the love of God, please stop using the word ‘literally.’ It is driving me fucking crazy!

I have to say, I think this place is eons better than any other golf message board, and better than pretty much any message board of any topic I’ve frequented. And I say that having been involved in a few heated disputes. We’re smart and funny and empathetic and eloquent and also rowdy and dumb and loud. It’s a good mix, IMO.

Except that is literally the name of this forum…unlike many dipshits who actually mean figuratively, that is literally the name. Don’t really know what else to say…

I completely agree and I would like to keep it that way.

We played on Saturday! Gorgeous day out there, played in short sleeves and shockingly steady POP despite a noon tee time.

Some pictures I found on my phone from my most recent round at Pine Ridge late this past summer.

I have so many good memories at Pine Ridge and the water provides such a cool background, but I can’t resist looking at every hole and thinking: God this hole would be amazing if you could chop down the trees that block your view to Loch Raven Reservoir.

Looking at the pictures it looks like the views could really be enhanced. Is this a course decision or an environmental restriction?

No doubt that Andy from the Fried Egg would have a field day at Pine Ridge tagging trees that should be removed.

I would suspect both. There isn’t a huge environmental lobby in Baltimore to fight something like that, but there would definitely be a minor uproar if you said you wanted to do it to “enhance views.”
