Strapped Baltimore (Season 5) - @KVV rants about different shows

The Thames Street Oyster House is our favorite in Fells Point.

Good to know! Have not been there yet but will try to get there on one of our next trips in.

Not in the city, but An Poitin Stil just north of the city in Timonium is a really cool Irish pub and one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

True story - was only there once, but I thought it was fantastic.

I know it’s not as near to Baltimore but Galway Bay in Annapolis is another cool Irish pub.

Tons of places have culture. You can get CULTURE in the quaint, charming little seaside towns up in the Northeast corner as well! Likewise, you can get a “rich history” in other Northeastern cities that have violence but aren’t the most violent city in America with homicides that are “far higher than any other city of 500,000 or more residents.”

I love how Baltimore’s problems, (only the fact that they are THE MOST VIOLENT CITY IN AMERICA) are always brought up and quickly brushed aside on here. I’ve never seen such blatant whitewashing. This place is just a full-on Baltimore love fest. Not a lot of “nuance” that you all claim to admire.

Yes, one of my kids is going to be into Edgar Allen Poe…

Is this really just my buddies creating an internet forum with fake accounts just to mess with me? I don’t believe this is real.

Why is Baltimore “life” but Cape Cod isn’t? What a ridiculously limited view of “life.” I don’t even understand what you’re saying. It’s absurd.

I’m glad you aren’t playing the card, and I’m confused as to why others are considering that I’ve backed up my claims with facts. How can it be racist if it’s factually supported? I’m not such a guilty white guy that I’m going to take my family to a dangerous area just to feel like an ally. It’s just a lazy response.

I don’t think the quote below is very eloquent. It’s blunt, it isn’t backed up by statistics, it lacks nuance and is unempethetic.

“There’s a huge group of people who say ‘oh I would never go into the city, I don’t feel safe’, that enrages me because it is so based on bullshit”

  • KVV Strapped (Baltimore) Part Three

That’s the quote. Read the excerpt posted below and return to this paragraph. Is it based on “bullshit” or is the reality just a bit more complicated than that? For lovers of nuance, that take lacks empathy for why someone would feel unsafe and it lets Baltimore off easy. It’s excusing poor behavior to try to justify why it’s violent, or where you will most likely be safe, instead of admitting that there is a serious problem and understanding why someone wouldn’t want to take their family there until things turn around. It’s not “bullshit” if it’s the most violent city in America and had “far” more killings only a couple years ago than any other city of its ilk. It’s offensive to suggest so.

What bothers me most is how some on here don’t think that’s a fair and reasonable take? If you feel differently, and you don’t care that it’s the most violent city in America, why is it so “enraging” that I want to take my family to a more quiet and peaceful destination?

Baltimore Crime

Not to mention the countless other crimes that come with this level of violence like windows being bashed, robberies, riots, assaults, gang activity, etc.

And yet, here you are?

I’ve been to Baltimore a couple times, most recently for work. They had us near Fells Point, I really enjoyed that area, I think I spent a week at Max Taphouse one night. Good times.

We used to hang out at Middleton Tavern or at McGarvey’s in Annapolis 30 years ago.

Sometimes it’s best to just walk away from a discussion.

Strapped Season 5 was fantastic. Most of us seemed to enjoy it. Those of us with a connection to the city enjoyed it a great deal.

Fuck me for getting sucked in but I’m drunk…

Are you fucking kidding me??? Poe is an institution in any English class across America. His work is legendary. Fuck off right here but…

Cape Cod has its part in life and Baltimore has a different place. Both can be true… and you’re an idiot for thinking otherwise bc… well, they both are real places in this world

I’m not defending Baltimore’s violence but you cherry picked one year. Chicago has had that tag, NY has had that rag, Washington DC has had a violent history. As others have said, every fucking city has its problems but every city has something to offer.

This may be the first time I’ve interacted with you and god you’re insufferable. I’m done

I did mostly enjoy it. I was actually going to come in here and comment about how I thought KVV actually seemed normal and likeable until he dropped that “bullshit” line.

HAHA this is hilarious. Kids are forced to read old poems by relics like Edgard Allen Poe but 99.999% of them don’t actually become big Poe or Dickinson fans. Are you seriously this out of touch? It’s a class assignment, virtually no kid becomes a big Poe fans and wants to visit his grave. The thought of that is ridiculous!

Oh buddy you clearly are more than a few under par at the moment. You literally said…

How offensive.

Believe it or not, not every city has, or has ever had the level of extreme violence that has occurred in Baltimore the last few years. Wrong again.

Lastly, it’s also a political statement for me to say “Dear Baltimore’s City Council, I’m not going to support you with my tourism dollars until you clean up your act.” More should do the same. It’s a protest.

I know there are plenty of families who have decided not to move there because of concerns about crime. Why do you think home prices are so low?

I can predict now which parts of my posts you will turn into a boring joke.

It really hurts knowing we shouldn’t expect to see @Eric_Denver on any local golf courses in the foreseeable future.

Maybe you’ll have me out at CC of Maryland?

Come on man. I’ve openly defended you since you came back, but you are doubling down on a bad take and completely ruining a good thread. The fact that you compared visiting Baltimore and Cape Cod as similar experiences really speaks loudly. It also sounds like you have very little knowledge of Baltimore outside of a few headlines. Why don’t you just start a new “Can I like Baltimore” thread and let this one get back to what was an awesome season.

I would, but we’re about a mile from the city line. That might be cutting it close for you, what with all the violence you’ve heard about.

And for the love of god, don’t even think about playing Elkridge Club. Half the property sits across the line in Baltimore City.

Maybe you’re right on this point but the Baltimore NFL franchise is named after his most famous work. My first visit to Baltimore was highlighted by seeing some Poe stuff… but it’s very possible I’m the 0.0001%

Sorry to everyone else, I hate when I perpetuate a known troll on a thread that doesn’t deserve it
