I’m a ruling elder for my church, does that count?
I mean another translation of “presbyter” is elder right?!
‘Another translation…’
You mean the translation wink wink, nudge nudge ?
No offense at all! I got a good kick out of it!
What’s next to get the ball rolling here? A spreadsheet?
Always.
merch.
Reading this thread as a member of my church’s Evangelism committee: I believe the next step is to make a motion to proceed with the forming of the spreadsheet, form a sub-committee to deal with the spreadsheet, then bring it up at the next meeting in a month.
Here’s a google form so I can gather contact information and degree of interest. I plan on giving everyone a few months to make plans and see. Maybe by late October I can gather money for a deposit to block off tee times.
I think first we need to figure out who is bringing the food and drinks to the meeting. Then we can tackle planning for the next meeting.
These jokes kind of sting tho………
Then come to the meeting to find a few of the people have already made all the decisions and you’re there to rubber stamp that regardless of what you think…
(Sorry, cynicism at how things work in the PCI seeping through!)
Was speaking at our General Assembly on Tuesday and was representing…
(Ambush marketing @MerchCzar ?)
To what were you speaking?
There was a report and resolution to bring in ‘authorised’ vows for baptisms and admission to communicant membership. I was speaking against the resolution because the proposed vows weren’t very well written (all in favour of authorised vows, not sure why we haven’t had them already!).
Sadly, it was a former Moderator and retired principal of our Theological College proposing the resolution and we lost the vote pretty heavily. He carries a lot of weight in our General Assembly so was always an uphill battle.
For those with nothing better to do, my speech is at the 1 hour 19 minute mark…
I’d love to hear more about being a pastor in Ireland. Is Ireland where you grew up?
Born and raised in Belfast (Northern Ireland). Now minister in Castlewellan and Leitrim, a town and a vilage not for from Royal County Down.
Castlewellan is 95%+ Roman Catholic / Nationalist which makes it hard ground for gospel work because Presbyterians are seen as ‘the others’.
Happy to answer any questions or queries
Watching your video, got me very excited for our General Assembly this summer! Wow, beginning your ministry 6 weeks before lockdown. You exhibited a lot of courage and the sweater looked awesome!
@MerchCzar Ambush marketing on our denomination’s magazine following on from the General Assembly! (photo entirely staged, the photographer begged us to pose like this because he was told he needed a photo like it)
