Now that I’ve been in thread for a minute, I haven’t seen anyone mention Tuckaway recently. I did recently get promoted to a golf member there, so if anyone is looking for a round in Franklin, happy to have any of you beautiful people.
I’d love to play there sometime.
Original home to the GMO!
Was the course renovation completed? How’s the course now?
Yes Reno’s are done. For now. If I’m reading the summary emails from the surveys they had done last year correctly, there’s more coming. Obviously not a full renovation to the course but small tweak stuff. Most members seem to be really happy with the renovation.
The only time I played before the renovations was a high school (so 15 years ago) mini meet where I got to play 9 holes one time and it was a shotgun start. My buddies all swear we only played the back nine. But the only hole that I even slightly remember is #6. Which is all to say, I don’t remember how it was back then.
I can say that it is now super fun. If I read the description of the renovations correctly, it was just super punitive to slightly miss the fairway. Bunkers everywhere and thick trees to frame most holes. The bunkers are still there now, but you have the option to play away from them now, where the penalty for doing so is rough and a bad angle with the possibility of bad luck behind a tree. It’s playable across the board with its main defense being elevation changes and the greens. And the greens are pretty intense and they get them rolling.
Golf portion aside, the outdoor patio is super fun. I was on the waitlist all last year but my wife and I frequently went for an early dinner on the patio on weekends to watch people come up 18.
Sounds great. Would love to do a home and home sometime.
Would be happy to do it!
Sort of a meta question…
Is it a faux pas to offer up a home and home if I’m a member at a public course?
We get a number of guest passes every year, and while I’m happy to hand them out to my league partners and friends it would be an even better use to host a refugee or two this summer.
If anyone finds themselves in the Northeast part of the state, and is interested in a round (especially the Saturday morning $20 skins game) let me know.
Home and home and home @WIHacker ?
Deal.
Nobody has to ask me twice.
Hey all,
I’ll be coming from Michigan Tuesday, July 18th-Thursday, July 20th and then I’ll be headed to Minnesota before potentially hitting some northern WI courses (Big Fish & St Germain) on my way over to the UP a week later.
First tee time I booked is at Lawsonia (Links) at 7AM on Tuesday, July 18th. I know it’s not the most convenient time, but figured I’d throw it out here in case anyone is wanting to join.
Also, I always love soliciting info. For my second round that day should I play the Woodlands course or head to Stevens Point CC? Planning to try as a single at both courses at Sand Valley & the Sandbox on the 19th once those dates open, and then the 20th is still a sandbox. I have a wedding in MN the 21st so i need to start heading that way… Debating Wild Rock and/or Troy Burne, but we’ll see what happens.
Any thoughts?
Edit: also, anyone played Wild Ridge in Eau Claire? Came across it & can’t tell if it would be worth a stop or not.
Go to Stevens Point CC 100%
Wild Ridge is a pretty interesting course with lots of elevation changes. It’s not making any “best of” architecture lists, but it’s pretty fun to cross it off your list.
You mention Eau Claire and Hudson, so presumable you’re headed in the direction of the Twin Cities. If so, I’d suggest playing StoneRidge in Stillwater just across the river on the 20th.
FWIW Wild Rock is going to be out of your way if you’re going from Sand Valley to the Twin Cities.
StoneRidge is on my list for sure, I haven’t figured out my Minnesota golf 100% yet, but the praise is noted. I’ve listed so many options lol.
It would have to be pretty far to be “out of my way” to my standards, but this one is actually directly on my way which is moreso why I was wondering how it was.
Can’t speak to Wild Ridge, but I will say that Menards is a great place to stop to take a shit on the long road trip north.
Allegedly, or whatever.
To be clear.
Wild Ridge, yes directly on your way.
Wild Rock, definitely not directly on your way.
Lmao, whoops. Thanks for reminding me to take my time when reading haha.
Wild Rock definitely not on the way, but it seemed the only course you guys thought was worth playing in the Dells, but also why I’m exploring other options for that day. Definitely a fair point!
