Got it - thanks! Exciting line up this year. Stevens Point CC and Oconomowoc CC both on the docket
Wanaki!
Anybody else have an internet outage? Happened here early Friday morning and they said itād be fixed in 7-8 hours aaaand it is now Saturday night
Kind of, we have ATT, went out Friday night, came back on last night around 11:30.
I had enough issues with spectrum I actually added another ISP with TMo home internet and, because Iām an IT nerd, have some quality of service stuff that balances stuff between the 2, but looking at my router, spectrum has been on and off for me since Thursday.
So, TLDR, yes, plenty of outages.
Iām sure itās been discussed in here before but iāve been trying to find something reasonable in Madison to play before/after The Ope-In this august. Was doing my due diligence and reading some reviews on the public Madison courses and they were not positive at all. Was probably going to play University Ridge and hopefully The Glen, but it seems (at least from the reviews) that the city courses have gone to shit. Is this true?
Odana is the only of the city courses that is even in decent shape. Otherwise, public golf in Madison is going to leave you with fairly limited options that leave a lot to be desired.
You can go a little south to Oregon and play Bergamont, go a little north to Waunakee to play 6 mile, pleasant view (27 holes plus a 9 hole par 3) is a little up from U Ridge, and if you bring safety gear for mosquitos, you can play the Bridges.
Never, under any circumstances play the oaks.
Iāve heard the talk about The Oaks a lot in this thread. Probably will check out Kestrel Ridge in Columbus or Old Hickory instead since itās on our way up there.
IMO U Ridge is the only public in Madison that is a must stop. Bum detailed the other decent options but I donāt think any of them would blow your doors off. The Glen is really cool for what it is, but I donāt think itās worth playing on a trip like this, at least to me (if you do play, itās best enjoyed with a half set & persimmons and must be followed by a walk across the street to the Village Bar).
Old Hickory is fun albeit a tight piece of property in places. Could go up to Berlin and play Mascoutin as well, really fun 27.
I was there yesterday and thanks to not living in Madison anymore and going there regularly, it threw me for a very brief moment when I heard ācash or cardā
How does the Oaks work out for WSGA qualifiers? Easy spot because no one wants to play there, few qualifying spots because of a lack of entries, or just frustrating because itās The Oaks?
Agree with @midwestgolfbum. City courses arenāt amazing, but then Glen is a fun little walk. Iām a big fan of Bergamont personally. There and U Ridge are the top tier if you ask me
Door Creek on the far east side (technically Cottage Grove) is worth a try if youāre looking for a relatively cheap public. Generally in decent shape and the layout has a lot of variety. My biggest gripe is that they have no problem packing the tee sheet so pace of play can be an issue.
Itās⦠fine. When you have better players out there it doesnāt become a danger zone nearly constantly, but it has so many idiotic holes that it isnāt my first choice for a location.
Like normal, the lower number of players, the lower qualifying spots available. This year, itās likely that most places are going to be pretty full with Erin being the tournament venue.
Do they put a spotter on 14? I could see that hole becoming a logjam if not
Normally have somebody sitting near the end of the fairway for balls going into the shit, but nobody on the other side by the green.
14 is one of those holes I try to block from my memory given how stupid it is.
Sounds like Iāll just play down at meadowbrook. Itās a longer drive but Iāve been playing it since high school. Kind of interested in seeing if they play the new back tees on 9 and 14.
They also have all new bunkers, which for a qualifier setting, should be better than what was there before. Make it at least a little more predictable vs a complete and total guess like they were.
Wait. Which course is that?
