Roll Call: WA (PNW Crew)

That’s what I was meaning.

Sorry, I might have still been out of breathe when I wrote that.

Got a round in on Sunday and another today. The good news - PNW is really, really pretty. Leaves, rolling hills, etc. Chef’s kiss. The bad news - everything is starting to plug, no roll-out, and the ball is flying one club less. For those of us who aren’t super long, the ego take a beating when you CRUSH a drive 230. I mean, I got ALL of it.

The weather looks to be taking a turn this week. All eyes on Bandon 2021 in March!!!

So… now that we’re in rainy szn, does anyone have recommendations on the best drainage in the PNW? I’m new to this thread so not sure how we’ve defined PNW, but I’m in Seattle so I’m particularly interested in western Washington. Will travel fairly lengthy distances for dry-ish winter ground.

Played Washington National on Wednesday after some heavy rain with a very early tee time. It was definitely soggy in spots but totally playable. So I’d recommend. I’ve heard (but can’t confirm) that Chambers Bay is the best drainage in town, and I’ve seen recommendations for Legion Memorial, White Horse, Gold Mountain, the Home Course, and Oakbrook.

On the bad side, Harbour Pointe and West Seattle are good summer tracks, but typically terrible in the winter. My brother told me that Druids Glen is in sore shape right now and suggested avoiding.

I don’t want my already crummy golf swing to hibernate this winter, so interested in any takes here.

Looks like you’re pretty on the money - Chambers by a million, followed by courses in the tacoma area (Home Course, etc.). All the public Seattle options get incredibly soggy, I wouldn’t recommend any.

I tend to play Interbay a bunch in winter even though it suffers from the same problems - just for a much quicker day out when its cold and drizzling but I still want to get some golf in.

I play Jeff Park all winter long, being on top of the hill, it drains okay. If you get 2 dry days in a row the front 9 is very playable with only 2 or 3 greens on the back that are pretty rough. Obviously, if I can get down south or out to the peninsula, those are preferable, if not, Jeff Park scratches the itch. Also, most of the time, you can get around in like 2:30, which helps.

I think okay is being very generous - but either way it doesn’t belong in a conversation about best drainage!

If we’re talking about courses within 20 minutes of downtown, the competition is not particularly stiff.

Yeah, agree with all of this and appreciate the insight that Jefferson may be the best of the munis drainage-wise (though I also like Interbay). Get tired of having to drive 45+ minutes to get to some decent golf . . . but that’s just how it is around here.

If anyone else has drainage thoughts, I’m here for them.

As a local, can confirm Interbay and Jackson do not drain the best :joy:

Oakbrook is probably one of the best draining courses that’s not a “links” course around Tacoma. It plays well in the winter.

Hi everyone, I come to you in peace from NC with hopes of getting some help/advice. Having already met @MrVinegar206, I know I’m coming to a good group of people. My wife has been offered a job in Kirkland, and whilst we are in the early days of exploring it, I wanted to reach out & see if anyone had any recommendations or tips for apartments in that area?
I should note we are pretty familiar with the area as she was born & raised in the Everett/Lake Stevens area. Cheers!

Welcome fellow future Kirkland resident!

Not terribly familiar with apartment options, but would note that both downtown Kirkland and Totem Lake have brand new apartment complexes. The downtown Kirkland location has a Top Golf location in the building below? At least that was the plan before Covid hit. Not sure if it ever got to open.

We’ve been looking at downtown Kirkland for now, and sister-in-law did mention Totem Lake has become quite a nice place? I don’t think I’ve been to either, but the plan would be to live as close to wife’s office as possible so we don’t have to buy another car. Should know more this week, so I’ll hit you in the DMs if I need to know more.

Sick! Honestly everything on the east side has been pretty nice and getting nicer over the last few years. How “city” are you trying to get? I’ve only had friends in houses over there, so it might take a little research for apartments, but the Bothel and Woodinville areas are quite nice and would be a quick drive down to Kirkland. Pretty central, although I would say they’re more suburbs than city.

I grew up in Kenmore, spent alot of time back and forth to Kirkland / Bellevue over the years. Totem Lake is probably the move if you’re looking for slightly less expensive but if commute / proximity to the office is the main concern just go Kirkland. There are an abundance of apartments/condos, great restaurants/bars. You can’t go wrong with anywhere in the downtown ish Kirkland area IMO

@davidc I’ve been on Apartments.com (shout out Jeff Goldblum) a lot over the weekend and there are quite a lot of options. We want to be as city/central as can be really - it’s what we have in Charlotte and it means having only one car is completely fine. Bellevue rent prices are almost 45% higher than Charlotte, on average, so we ruled that out quite quickly.

@Jersh I appreciate that. We figure it nets out to spend a little more to live in Kirkland compared to living in Totem Lake & needing to buy a 2nd car.

I’ll probably know if we are going to do it by the end of this week, so I’ll be back!

  1. Forever shoutout Jeff Goldblum, true legend.

  2. Nice! All those areas are definitely in the city haha I guess I just get a little picky because I live right in the heart of Seattle, don’t mean to mischaracterize Kirkland and spots.

This is the truth.

Anyone heard of or considered purchasing a 2021 Around the Sound Golf Pass?

I’ve seen it but have not purchased it. I believe @davidc did maybe a year or two ago? I could be wrong. We might have just talked about it. Any updates on the courses they are offering?
