Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) and localized ice cream debates (Part 1)

$79 to walk there is legit robbery. Officially questioning the sanity of the people making those decisions

For how many great courses Ohio has the new rates for this year are pretty insane a lot of places. The old 18 at yankee trace is up to $68 now. Walden Ponds is $62. This may be the first year where I just don’t play any golf on a weekend because the interesting courses are just too expensive.

I like Yankee, but that’s getting a little silly.

The parking lot has been full though all week so people are lining up.

One spot left for Fowlers May 22 at 8:10. @prop @quicktempo and myself are the group so far.

Jesus!! $79! That’s insane. Guess I already hit my one and only Fowler’s round for the year.

I hate expensive average public golf, but if they are doing anything at all to apply fertilizer or chemicals at the course the price of those has tripled in the last year. Shoutout our local chemical dealer @GGates18.

Also, fuel costs don’t help at all. All of that being said, I would rather the course charge a decent green fee and charge more for beer etc…

More for beer and more for the cart fees. Make it more of a decision to take a cart for people who are able to walk. If you have a medical issue or are over 50 or something maybe offer the cart discount. I’m not a policy maker, but rental pull/push carts (even the Clicgear 6.0+) are much less expensive than a new fleet of gas carts.

I like this take, I think there is an argument that walking increases pace of play as well

It’s more that walkers typically are better golfers or at least more knowledgeable about the game to keep things going.

I can confirm that fert, chem, fuel, seed are all freaking ridiculous this year and possibly for the foreseeable future. I’m sure labor has to be an issue as well. Hell, our course is having a member volunteer weekend to help with some issues on the course.

Seneca just replaced their very outdated pull cart fleet with some seriously impressive 4-wheel sun mountain jobs (or maybe Bag Boy, I can’t remember which)They’re charging 10 bucks which is debatable. But it’s encouraging to see a course put money into their push cart fleet.

Kiki did this too. They went with Bag boys. I’d imagine they’re the same as Seneca.

I work for a very large Fortune 500 company and we had a pricing rationale meeting about a month ago to explain why we’re raising prices again on our products. The first two bullet points in the presentation were fuel costs for our fleet and how the US is largely dependent on Russia for fertilizer (which we need for crops to supply our product). I’m sure this applies to golf immensely.

Sycamore Springs in findlay has raised prices a bit but have also invested in machinery and hired a new grounds super. That plus raising expenses is understandable but i still hate to see the increases for walking

I’m here for bifurcation - riders should bear the full cost of that choice. Raising greens fees is totally understandable given the inflationary environment (and don’t forget increased demand) but there is at least a minimal level of service expected with that. I don’t think anyone here minds a reasonable increase in fees to keep a course in decent condition, etc.

Chardon Lakes is $26 to walk 18 on the weekends after 2pm. Good weekend option out that way. They get the greens rolling in the summer

Won’t be me!

Terrible. Over-designed suburb golf. Some decent shot value on a few holes, but badly constructed, doesn’t drain properly, boringly designed mogul porn for the most part.

Other than the ridiculous par 5 on the front with the creek all the way up the left side of the hole…I can’t think of any holes which stand out at all.

Flat doesn’t mean bad. In fact, flat and windy can be awesome. But GreyHawk is Sweetbriar without trees.
