Roll Call: Ohio (OATW adjacent) 2026 Major now official

As someone who hits a cut off the tee and can miss way right. When I saw my first hole for the am qualifier was 10 2 years ago I had a LOT of time to think about the tee shot with OB looming.

Yeah, your assessment of Double Eagle is spot on. Course is really good, the front 9 can be tight in places and the back 9’is much more open.

The vibes out do the course though and J’s Hooch and Ho’s (tiki bar) is so much fun!

I’ll go play there every chance I get!

Scioto Reserve put four Trackman Sims in this Fall. Went in where the old indoor pool was.

Including 15 yards in front of the tee box, which somehow can turn into a lost ball…

For me DE is 4th of the Cbus big 4 by a long margin. Place was impeccably manicured and had some nice holes, 17 is great, but i didn’t find much of it that special. Wasn’t particularly challenging, especially of the tee, which is probably what they were going for. With that being said i would never say no to playing there, it’s certainly a special day with the whole vibe of the place.

Agree with @Creags York is underrated and fun. CCC is a real treat. I know it gets a lot of hate but i enjoy Scarlet. Scioto and TGC are a close 1-2 of places I’ve played, could play either of them every day.

Also Dayton CC was a plesant surprise this summer. That place could be super sick with the right work done.

Double Eagle and Scioto are the two at the top of my list to play in Central Ohio.

I live very close to Double Eagle so if anyone has the hookup I’d love to tag along to there or Scioto! I can reciprocate at Northstar just down the road (obviously not comparable but it’s the best I can do lol)

Talking to the friend who’s a member at Inverness apparently they added some bunkering to the course, and some length on certain holes too. I need to bother her to get out again.

Can confirm. Was out there for the Inverness Intercollegiate and some of the holes are stupor long from the back tees now.

Well from the championship tees was always insane. I think it was 7700 yds? We played the silvers when I was there which was a substantial test, and the championship tees were soooooo far back.

Their goal is to play 8000+ in an attempt to host a men’s major again. Totally makes sense to spend millions to do that rather than roll back the ball.

The issue for them hosting a men’s major isn’t the course. It’s the accomodations and local infrastructure, from the people I’ve talked to.

Avg PGA course length is only 7200 or so iirc.

Haven’t seen anyone mention the Virtues. Has it gone downhill?

No, it’s in good shape. We played it this summer, and two falls ago. It’s just not… Camargo. Or even close.

Have you heard if they are doing work? Thought I heard at one point they had a restoration on the table but membership wasn’t really into it.

I’d like to see DCC again. I played there once in the fall and I think it took us roughly 20 hours to play because the other guys in my group wouldn’t stop looking for balls. It was the worst fall golf day of my life and I refuse to judge DCC off of it

I’ve talked to the super a few times, yes they have a plan and as you say they are trying to get the membership on board to fork over the money. Would love to see it spruced up, some pretty cool holes, they are pretty landlocked so adding much distance really isn’t in the cards. Great view out of the back of the clubhouse and patio too

Man, maybe the number one take away I get from this convo is that I need better friends. I’ve only played like 3 places mentioned here. And 2 of those were because of people on this board.

I really like Virtues and it’d definitely be in my personally played top 10, along with The Scarlet Course… both of which get a lot of shit around here.

However, it doesn’t quite deliver enough to get into my top 5.

All of the cool places I’ve seen or played have been because of the Refuge. This place is amazing for that.

Golf Mag released their ā€œTop 100 Public Golfā€ list and Ohio is…oof.

Firestone South is #53 and that is it for the Buckeye State.

Though, Harbour Town is #12 so that’s like half a point for being Ohio’s southern capital.
