I used to think caddying would be my hell, being around golf all day and not being able to hit any shots. But after playing in some team events, I’ve realized I love the process of talking through holes and specific shots. I think I would love caddying.
Caddied for 6 years and can say its an amazing experience. Just like all jobs it had its drawbacks, but I would say 99% of the time it was great. There’s definitely moments of, “I’d love to take this celebrity shot for my golfer right now” but also you can enjoy the course without any of the stresses of golf too.
And as someone who works indoors now, just being outside all day again would be fantastic.
Hello fellow Ohio peoples. I want to reach out for some roost information.
I’m moving back there after 25 years. Grew up in Champaign county, playing Indian Springs (anyone remember that course?) Woodland, Darby Creek, Windy Knoll, Reid Park, etc.
Recently retired military, working on my education before I get back in the workforce. I’ll be getting back there in August. Enrolling at Ohio State. Would like to find some golf nuts and make playing golf a more consistent part of my life than it has been.
Welcome back! Let us know details when you get closer to arriving and I’ll get something on the books
Settling in Pataskala here in June (hopefully). Honing in on Cumberland Trail or Denison for a weekly after-work 9 and occasional weekend round. For those that have played both of those places recently, which do you prefer?
- Cumberland Trail
- Denison
Was out to Sycamore for a round this afternoon (intended to play 18, ended up playing 9 because of pace of play and people showing up after work and just going off the back 9 as I was making the turn). I’m pretty good shape. Greens are a bit slower than normal right now, but we’ve had a good amount of rain the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it dries out over the next 2.5 weeks so we can get some speed turned up for the roost major
On that note, we haven’t even crossed 30 signups for the event yet, so if you’ve missed it, get your name on there. I’ve also only had one person signup for Friday golf, so if you’re interested in that, be sure to get on the list soon
I grew up outside St Paris and worked at Indian Springs as my 1st job before and during college. What a shame what happened to it. Played all of those places a ton. Welcome back!!
I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice but you will probably have a little easier time getting tee times at Cumberland on the regular.
Denison is probably my favorite course in the central Ohio area and has enough going on that I wish it could be my everyday course.
Cumberland to me is above average in all regards and I always have an enjoyable round but can say I’m ever craving to get out and play it compared to some others in the area.
Others out that side of town that I would consider would be Turnberry and Blacklick Woods. I prefer Turnberry’s layout over Cumberland and Blacklick is a nice tree lined change of pace. Both suffer from typical muni problems and you never know what you might get from week to week in terms of conditions, pace of play, and other intangibles.
I try to avoid the Kemper courses (NA Links, Royal American) as I feel they seem to be at least $15 overpriced and not worth it compared to other course in the area.
Need details on any other course please don’t hesitate to ask
Going to be in Ohio for work next week. Flying into Columbus and looking to get a round in somewhere between Columbus and Findley. Any recommendations for a courses to play? Thanks in advance! (Also, any BGSU grads in here?)
No help on the golf front for next week since I live in Cleveland, but…
What’s your preference on style of course?
Tight and tree-lined, more rolling and open, etc.
What area between Columbus and Findlay? That’s a very large area with two main routes to get between the two cities and might change the recommendations
No preference on style. I just enjoy good architecture I’d say
I land in Columbus in the morning and have to be in Findlay that night. So there’s not necessarily a route or area that Im trying to be in between the two cities!
If you want to play in or around Findlay, I’d be happy to take you out to play here. I think I’ve heard Veterens in Kenton is a good one. Liberty Hills just south of Bellefontaine is challenging and fun. There is a 9 hole course in upper Sandusky that I played last year, and was really surprised with how good and how challenging it was. Bluffton Golf Club is always a good round too.
I have played this one before, I agree that it’s challenging and fun.
If you wanted something closer to Columbus but still be somewhat along the way there’s Golf Club of Dublin, winds through neighborhoods but still pretty fun holes and layout. Wide fairways, massive greens, good mix of short and long holes.
Darby Creek and The Ridge are both out that way too, I really like The Ridge. Wide open links style layout.
I haven’t played it in a few years but Delaware Golf Club is a Donald Ross design. Not my favorite layout but that’s just my opinion.
I’m looking for Thursday tickets to the Memorial. I know I can always use the ticket resale sites but just checking if anyone know of another way I might be able to get some (Looking for 4).
Thanks!
I just got a FedEx tracking email from H&B…
Well that’s awesome!
We wearing our unis when we fuck up YCC in a couple weeks?!
Also, still have a spot on Friday the 9th at Manakiki 8:00. Going to call Thursday AM to give it back if no takers.
