I don’t know what I would call it, besides a matchplay course. Lots of half par holes with more par 3s and par 5s.
They have their “championship” course, they have a reversible ball on ground course, I think a wild just play the people in your group course would round out an experience at FD perfectly.
Do they have any plans for an additional course out there? There is just SOOOOOO much land at that place. It is possible they are just content with two, since the loop probably keeps most people an extra day, to play both…but it did seem like one more would have been ideal. Then you could pick which to add on over 3 days, if something like the Dunes course wasn’t your thing.
@theclv24 didnt you scrounge up a topography map for where that third course would be?
@Qslusser I am so in on that concept. Imagine what the Bootlegger boys would do with a full scale course
Each of those 2 layouts take up ~200 acres. Which is a massive plot of land. They have a ton of room.

The nice thing is that these courses don’t overlap so they should probably just build both.
Plus they both start and finish around the back end of the range so it’s convenient. Will need more accommodations though
Time for the FCF to invest in a house for rent?
I don’t think I ever did topo. Not even exactly sure where it would be. Most I heard is somewhere just north of Dunes and range property.
There is some really cool terrain in the spot being talked about. Looks like three distinct dunes, where you can definitely see a golf course working around and through those two valleys. This isn’t super detailed but you still see the potential.
That low spot is very low, good spot for par 3s.
I enjoy Winding Creek and Crestview for what they are. The 18 at Winding Creek is worth a play, some very narrow tree-lined holes but we usually get out there a couple times a year, can get soggy though. Crestview is a great spot to play after work and BYOB, just don’t expect too much from it, pace of play will be slowww. Western Greens is mediocre at best, greens usually baked out and bumpy.
As a note, love Pigeon Creek, just wish 80% of the holes didn’t have either water, OB, or both on them.
Played Bee Tee (formerly private Burning Tree) in Macomb yesterday.
Good lord. One of the handful of worst courses I’ve ever played. More stupid holes than I can remember. And like 1/3 of the course looked like it had been, or was currently, underwater very recently.
I shot a 78, +7 (w three doubles), so even with a good score, I hated the course. Avoid at almost all costs. And especially for $50. Felt like robbery.
Give Captain’s Club in Grand Blanc a shot once it’s had a chance to dry out. $55 for a Ray Floyd design with new ownership putting literal millions back into the course. Highly recommend
That course, generously, sucks ass.
It’s amazing that a private club turned public draws such demand and attention. It was private. That means it’s automatically great!
Just did a quick flyover. There’s 3 90 degree doglegs right. None of which you can hit driver on. Wtf.
Burning Tree is one of the VERY few courses that I would not play for free and truly think should not even exist. That place is atrocious.
That’s one of many reasons it sucks. I’ll never play there again.
Can anyone on the west side recommend any driving ranges in the Grand Rapids area? Finally getting settled in and need to get out for a couple practice sessions after not touching a club in a month
