Roll Call: Michigan - get out and play!

I paid $55 back in April, probably wasn’t peak given very early in the season. So if they keep the 18 hole rate under $70 as the article indicated they planned that’s not too crazy of a hike with minimal “renovations”

So many courses would be so much better with a strong tree removal budget.

Every year I go down to play the no findlaying up event and think to myself that sycamore springs could do with 50% less trees and it would still have too many trees.

So their plan is to jack up prices so they can eventually remodel and then make it private? Talk about a fuck you. I’m sick of private golf, if I have to hear about another sick new course from the fried egg that includes the term “national membership” I’m vandalizing high pointe.

High pointe is “different” in so far as the course was dead and closed.

This is them buying an active course, then killing it, then turning it private.

My annual December trip to Troy, was quick lived. I did go back and check here for coffee recs since Percent was closed until 8AM when I was in, earlier in the week. Glad I checked out Sabbath. Very neat shop, good coffee too. Not sure what blend I got but the young lady described it as “more fruity than your traditional roast.” I chose it and my dad joke of “let’s live dangerously“ went about as you would expect, coming from a 40 year old.

Percent is great the few times I’ve been but I adore sabbath. Glad you got a chance to check it out!

I mean, good luck to these guys, and it would be cool for Mike to work on another Michigan course. But given my past interactions with Ben Cowan, it’s hard to take him too seriously.

From what I have read this will 100% function like a public golf course. They’re just getting crafty with marketing for it. TONS of public courses in Michigan have $4-6K annual memberships that give you unlimited golf with cart, preferred/ early tee times, member events, club championship, etc.

Instead of being a public course with annual passes they are branding themselves as semi private with public tee times which makes the memberships and the public tee times seem a lot sexier. It makes sense and I get it.

The $10M number is insanely high though. That’s like a complete reno plus a full irrigation and drainage replacement, new pump house, etc. They very well could need all that but could also keep kicking the can down the road and make a ton of improvements for just $3-5M. Also wouldn’t be shocking if Mike was doing this for equity instead of cash. He has a lot of projects in that area and loves running a dozer/ sand pro.

Just a weird dude. A little pushy with people he’d never met before. Had a four foot putt to halve the17th hole and win the match. Called a penalty on himself. The uncalled it. Then missed the putt anyway, and me and my partner got a half point by winning the last hole. Used to get super defensive and pick fights on Golf Club Atlas until he finally left.

But he also used to organize an event at Greywalls every summer and some people really like him, so that’s just my opinion.

Sounds like the perfect owner-operator for a mid level golf course in (checks notes) Hartland Fucking Michigan.

plopping/bumping this here for anyone who may not be on the slack - FCF Curling 2025 - Google Sheets

25 Jan 25, we are doing a fresh coast curling day at the detroit curling club, located in Ferndale from 12-2:30. should be 33-40/person (if we end up getting a bartender…which is TBD). This includes everything you may want or need for curling (shoes broom and half an hour of instruction). Gonna close the signup Monday evening and open it up to non-flockers to fill out the two sheets.

I’ve never tried Curling before. Fuck it though, I’m in.

no experience required whatsoever. There is an instructor on site (and will be dedicated to our group), and depending on how many people we get I may end up floating around to help out as needed as well.

Oh hell yes. I forgot about this. Are we opening it up to non-refuge people if open? My former roommate and I talked about trying curling for years

Potentially, I want to see where we’re at come Monday - I assume we’ll have a few spots to fill, but will confirm monday

Hey All, new member here in the Canton/Plymouth area. Looking to play in some events this year or just meet up and play a round. Pretty much play every public course in my area.

Is there a group chat to join?
