I don’t think the hay was complete before I left but pac grove is quite a bit of fun. If the front 9 was wooded instead of through the community it would be on all the lists. The back nine is pretty special.
I think the only course I played in San Jose was the ranch. Pretty insane elevation changes but completely unwalkable. Not really feasible to care for without a basically unlimited budget. Looked like a nice trip!
The Fort is an A+ experience from start to finish and reasonably priced. #18 might be one of the best finishing holes in the entire state.
Brickyard prices have gotten out of hand since Penske took over the course. Bucket list Indy course to play the holes inside the track if you visiting town.
Trophy Club, Bear Slide, and Purgatory all good options if you want to play farther north
not sure time on your time, budget or location. but would add trophy club and purgatory to this w/ the fort.

Great feedback from all! I have two days to play and no real budget in mind so was thinking of doing Brickyard and The Fort but just looked up Purgatory and Trophy Club and they both look amazing. Embarrassment of riches in comparison to golf in Louisiana…!
it might actually be lol. we played from one tee box back and the brother in law wiped one off the planet and had a perfect look in (pink). I get up to my ball (red) and my brain broke. Almost made me think his wydham clark slice ball near the fescue was purposeful. was so worried about the tree that i came up woefully short into that creek protecting the green 
I played the fort three weeks ago and was pretty disappointed with the shape it was in for a $100 round. Mostly in the bunker department.
Brickyard was in great shape and is definitely a cool experience if you haven’t played it.
Trophy Club is good (always beats me up, but I love it).
Haven’t been to purgatory in about 15 years so I can’t report.
If you have time to go to Foxcliff, I can’t think of a better value. I’ve played it twice in the last two months and it’s in great shape. Don’t read much into any review older than this season because they’re under new ownership. The course had fallen into shambles and then the new guy bought it to protect it from development and has been truly putting in the time, money, and sweat equity to give you an A-one experience. Last time I was there the owner was in the bathroom with his arm in the wall fixing a toilet and then after the round he was greeting everybody that played thanking them for coming out. Also, if you like bourbon, they have a BBQ bar with over 300 bottles to sample at very reasonable prices- including half-ounce pours for flights.

I believe that course is (was) just outside the Villages. So if I would have taken a picture the other direction it would be of the hills where The Ranch was. Out of business now, as a golf course, I think.
Ackerman was a delight. A couple of hiccups with the construction going on, but the course was in good condition. Ended up joining some younger kids (and their parents) as they were playing a practice round for a tournament the next day. Quite the ego hit getting outplayed by kids under half my age, but it is what it isssss.
The plan for the following day was to play battle ground in the morning and Harrison hills in the afternoon, but the weather had other ideas. We ended up replaying battle ground and with the weather scaring off most other players we ended up playing an 8some scramble and it was quite the time. Only got rained on the last 3 holes.
Harrison Hills remains my white whale. Not sure when I’ll get the opportunity to get up there with 4 hours to spare, but I’ve got to figure something out.

Yeah, the heat is not good. Played the first round of our Tour Championship yesterday afternoon and it was brutal. Have another round this afternoon at the Brickyard and expecting the same- hopefully a little bit of a breeze to help.
Yep, weather was better- not as humid and a bit of a breeze that was lacking in the lowlands of Country Club of Indianapolis. Also helps that I shot 90 at the Brickyard today versus 116 at CCI yesterday.
How were the conditions at Brickyard?
Pretty good- greens were really slow, though. I played with a Member and he said they’re experimenting with a new way to cut the grass.
Played Warren & Harrison Hills this past Saturday & wow are they great courses. Between Harrison Hills & Rock Hollow, Central Indiana is killing it with great affordable golf. The original 9 at Harrison Hills touched my soul, that shit was so fun. Pics don’t do it justice, but I figured I’d attach some anyway.
Warren is such a great golf course also. $90 felt like a great price, but since they aerated 2 weeks ago (we couldn’t tell) they only charged us $50! Felt like highway robbery!
Still tons of golf I want to see in Indiana, but these 2 exceeded high expectations.
That uphill par 4 (I think 15) at Harrison is absolutely brutal. You have to hit the green or it can turn into absolute plinko going from one bunker to the other. I love that finishing stretch they have there of 14-18.
