Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

Per a CDGA email a few weeks ago.

CDGA Members can now play Erin Hills for $210 on June 15 – 17 and June 22 – 24. I may try to just do a mid week day off, lose a bunch of balls, enjoy myself.

I was doing the same thing and realized my grip was super messed up! Guess I forgot how to hold a club in the last 6 months. Wish I would’ve figured that out before the 15th hole on sunday haha. 15-18 was a stripe show, though, so I won’t be giving up golf for good haha

I was still fighting it on front 9 yesterday. Absolutely driven by my back being tight af and just throwing my hands through the ball. Finally loosened up and everything got back to normal and I improved by 10 shots between 9s. Seriously just getting reps in is going to make all the difference.

thank goodness the ranges open back up Friday. i’ll be the first one there!

@FlapjackNickelsack and I both made the pilgrimage to the north shore for our first round at Canal Shores on Saturday. It was a spiritual experience that’s going to take me a while to unpack, but I will say that if you haven’t played it, don’t hesitate.

I’m penciled in for 36 up there on Saturday and cannot wait. My approach game has been a disgrace of late, so I’m hoping I can get dialed in with enough reps.

shout out to Seabiscuit, who, much like Amy McCormick’s four horses, is also dead

This and the DIY, definitely not sanctioned single track were my favorite things I’ve ever seen on a golf course.

Canal Shores might be too good.

It sounds like every Park District course except Marovitz and South Shore will be reopening in the next few weeks. It seems rather arbitrary to lump golf courses, which naturally operate at a limited capacity, in with other “lakefront” recreation. But there are probably some optics issues that Lightfoot is trying to avoid.

Columbus Park is perhaps only challenged by Fresh Meadow for the worst course in the area, but I sure have missed having it available a few minutes away from home.

Think I need to carve out some time for canal shores this weekend

It might be golf in its purest form. I’ll be going half-bag next time for sure.

Still being new to the area, I look forward to making my first trip up there this summer.

For those who know, I’ve been trying to figure out: How welcoming are they to (1) non-golfers walking with the group; and (2) dogs. My girlfriend has expressed interested in bringing her dog along for a walk on the course while I play. From what I can tell, Canal Shores seems to be one of the better options in the area to do that.

(Obviously, the current COVID-19 restrictions may limit this kind of thing. I’m just curious in more general terms based on everyone’s prior experience.)

They are friendly to both. I’ve played Canal Shores 3-4 times with my dog. Just make sure it’s on a leash as the holes border streets

Thank you! She wouldn’t let the dog off leash like that, anyway, so the street would not be a problem.

I haven’t played in two years but it seems like the place is a lot different… anyone know what has changed?

Sometimes there’s just as many neighbors walking along the holes as golfers. You will enjoy it. I’ve actually never played there without my dog

The spirit of St. Rappeo descended upon Canal Shores.

Confirm - I’ve played several times, but never brought my wife/dog. I called and they said fine if she walks with me, during COVID too.
