Roll Call “Chicago” (Part 1)

Allegedly yes. They cut down the fences like Friday I think he said. $200k settlement was tossed around, and potential annual donation or something but guy with me was unsure on annual. He is a dedicated hole volunteer so some deeper knowledge. 4 is permanently up tee now.

2/4 players still hit the tree fronting his property.

Upside: it feels good for about a couple minutes
Downside: What happens if someone knows someone hurt or killed? Do you really want that blowback?

Maybe don’t use a deadly tragedy as an “in your face” attempt on Facebook.

In fact, maybe just delete your Facebook altogether.

Hey Chicago peeps.

There are a BUNCH of us in that Highland Park area (s/o Sunset Valley) and I just wanted to check in on everyone to make sure family/fruends are okay.

Not sure what I/we can do to help anyone that’s been affected, but PLEASE let us know what we can do to help.

Sending love to all y’all - and hope you had a SAFE and healthy 4th

I would like to apologize for my earlier post. I’ve never been good at properly responding to moments of public grief, and I let the negative thoughts in my head speak too loudly.

I don’t think any apology is needed. It’s hard not to respond with anger and frustration, especially when it is seemingly impossible to have an honest conversation with some friends, family, and colleagues about why this keeps happening.

I went to our suburban 4th of July parade with my son today, blissfully ignorant to what was unfolding simultaneously in Highland Park. Next year, if we even have a parade, it will be another formerly innocent experience where it will be impossible for the mind not to wander to worst case scenarios.

I’m thankful to have golf and this community of golfers in particular as an escape from some of those thoughts.

Bump forever. Love all you guis.

I also don’t have a great answer but it seems that this group is pretty good at golfing and raising money for charity. Should we consider something at Sunset Valley or use the Vernon Hills event for donating what we can to the town (or charity involved in the town’s recovery)

Anyone want to get weird and play Palmira in St. John, Indiana on Saturday AM?

Or can we get enough bodies down to…the Bourne?

We need to pick a day for the Refuge Scramble at the Bourne. Cant make this Saturday but i did talk to their pro shop and are willing to make tee times until the EOY if we pick a day in advance.

I can’t Saturday, but just wanna say I love Palmira. Anyone who can make this but is on the fence cause of the drive should absolutely pull the trigger.

My family and I live in HP. We did not go to the parade, my wife was felling under the weather. Divine intervention or the universe stepping in or whatever. Many of our friends did and thankfully they all got home safe. The stories of what they went through are bad, to say the least.

I played Sunset Valley on the morning of the 4th, dew sweeping at 5:30 AM. It was a great morning. After the round, I headed to Dunkin Donuts to get my boys some treats for the morning. DD is about a block down from the intersection of Green Bay and Central. I was home by 9:45 and making plans for the day with friends when the news came across Facebook. We canceled all plans and had to lock our doors and stay inside. Just a dreadful feeling.

Highland Park has really come together, offering all kinds of trauma resources and the like. There’s a very sad aire in the community, but I also feel like people are determined to help each other get through this. I’ve heard about “communities coming together” after these tradgedies. I never really put much stock in that, but I’m glad to report it’s a real thing! It definitely helps.

I’d encourage you all to look up the story of Aidan McCarthy and consider making a donation. Aidan is a 2-year-old that lost both his parents in the shooting. His GoFundMe is verified if you wish to donate. It’s passed $2 million, not that money can solve this, but hopefully it will be one less thing as he grows up.

Thanks for letting me vent a little.
