Roll Call: Bay Area Golfers

yeah I saw how far it was, but didn’t see any obvious alternative to fly into?

No major airports, nope.

You can fly into Arcata/Eureka airport but you’re going to layover in SF anyways. Would at least save one way of the 5 hr drive

My guess is the layover is at least two hours and then a short (less than an hour) flight so you’d save yourselves a few hours at most. But yes, an option.

I’m sticking with it….

That said. We’re also doing it the 26th…

Actually now I think about it, there’s a flight from Vegas to Arcata if you can route that way there wouldn’t be an SF layover

Sounds awesome. I’ll shoot you a DM.

Would love to grab a round at Baylands (I live close by) if there’s a spot open that day!

Not sure if you’ve come up with another solution but just to throw it out there - I have had great success with Turo in the Bay. I used to live there and return for work somewhat often and haven’t had a bad experience yet using Turo. I’ve seen rides as low as $35 a day (minimal added fees) and depending on the car / owner you can generally ask for different pick up / drop off locations.

Obviously doesn’t make sense if you really don’t want to drive but it will likely be the cheapest option.

The drive is not too bad and it’s beautiful, especially the last 50% of it. My wife and I love camping in Redwood National Park, it’s hard to overstate how amazing it is up there.

Redwood National Park is unique in that it’s actually made up of a bunch of California state parks and it’s pretty spread out, if you’re up in the northern end of the park, which is the most popular (Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park), the drive can be 7-8hrs. One suggestion I’d make is staying in Eureka the first night to make the drive easier. My wife and I like staying at https://www.humboldtbaysocialclub.com/. Just down the road is the Samoa Cookhouse (https://yelp.to/mDXtVsPI9ub) which is fun.

awesome, thank you. not sure if the kids can take that much travel in a short window but will check it out if we decide to go.

You also don’t need to drive all the way to Redwood National Park to see Redwoods. While those are the best, there are lots of fantastic options within a couple hours north of San Francisco. Alternatively you can experience the beautiful Northern CA coast in Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties, hit up one or two Redwood state parks and do some wine tasting.

Napa too! Bothe State Park, just north of downtown St. Helena, is a super underrated spot.

Yeah you can definitely make a great trip starting by going up through Napa Valley. From there you can through Alexander and Anderson Valley (both wine regions) to the Mendocino Coast. There are a couple redwood state parks along the way. Then head south along the coast, go inland along the Russian River and stay in Guerneville and play Northwood, then maybe more wine tasting in the Russian River valley.

those are trips I would absolutely love to take…without kids.

To be clear, not suggesting doing a wine centric trip, that route gives you some beautiful California scenery and allows you to stop at a winery or two along the way. Can easily just make them a lunch break stop to picnic.

Anyone want to play some golf on 12/14? I’m flying into SFO on 12/12, playing Pasatiempo with guys from The Golfer’s Journal on 12/13, and wanted to stick around an extra day and play golf on 12/14 with @GremlinGolfer and anyone else who might be interested. I haven’t booked a hotel yet, because I’m flexible. I can either stay in Santa Cruz, or stay somewhere else and just drive to Santa Cruz for Pasa that one day.

Dude I’ll be working. Fudge. Weekdays man…

Would LOVE to - but sadly can’t. Psyched for you for what sounds like an awesome round at Pasa (note: They’re all awesome rounds there). Wish I could join but have fun!
