you better
Yes some. I haven’t explored this much but I would think mostly to other troon owned private courses.
Also big discounts at public troons like Yocha, hiddenbrooke, Indian wells, Maderas which is a solid perk. You can book a whole foursome at these rates
For me I just can’t stand the hole routing… Off the tee you can either “lay up” to the left of the creek which is still a pretty narrow landing area and have like a 200 out so shot into the green or you take on the risk to fly out over the trees and hit a narrow fair way… And if you happen to lose your ball in the creek, you have this wonderful drop area that leaves you like 230 or so out. Just not a big fan of protecting par and in this case it’s almost denying it all together. Only my opinion tho.
Best option for someone in the peninsula that wouldn’t qualify for any young professional program (i’m 37… or 38?)?
Pre-renovation Lake Merced was about 25k initiation and ~$700/month until you turn 41 at which point you’d have option to convert to proprietary for more initiation and more monthly.
I think your best bets if you’re looking for something on the cost effective side would probably be somewhere like Green Hills or Palo Alto Hills. Maybe check out Peninsula CC too?
I know some of the others (Burlingame, Menlo) are invitation only, Stanford has a long waiting list and Sharon Heights is pretty obscene $$ wise.
Grew up playing junior/high school golf on the peninsula so know em all well!
Corica Park is starting a few evening leagues. 9-holes, weekly.
Par 3 Course: Wednesday and Friday
North Course: Tuesday and Thursday

Thought I’d share given the positive feedback we received on the course during the recent NIT qualifier.
Don’t assume you don’t qualify. Many jr memberships are going up to 40 or 42. Can be valuable to spread out the initiation fee over even just a few years.
What’s up with Mike Keiser apparently being on a bay area tour (at least Corica North and Monarch Bay)?
Matt Ginella’s post is kinda vague, but is he suggesting some sort of involvement at Monarch Bay? or just saying they played it?
Huh. He responded to a comment saying Keiser has “no involvement (yet)” - I wonder if he’s investing in it. Said Keiser just loves the course, which I can respect. On its own it’s a decent course as long as you get out early enough.
He’s def been here before. I remember a while back hearing he had some interest in monarch - something about the prevailing wind and the way the course sits etc.
Thanks for sharing - I’m out in San Rafael so signed up for the Indian Valley Thursday league. Anyone else want to join?
This is true, Silverado CC has junior executive up to 44.
Thanks for the tip, makes me feel a bit young again!
FWIW, as someone who has explored private club options over the years, I’ve found that simply by responding to the “Request Membership Information” prompt on the club website, I’ve usually gotten a quick response with very detailed information about costs, membership categories, etc., even from clubs that I initially thought of as unapproachable. If there is one that interests you, go ahead and reach out, and you’ll likely get the information. Now if its for a club on the peninsula, you might not like what you hear, but at least you’ll know.
Anyone a member of Palo Alto Hills? Curious if there is a timeline for their renovations to be completed.
edit: found answer, target June 2022
If anyone here is a member send me a DM.
His son went to SCU so I’m sure he has spent plenty of time in the bay area.
For anyone interested in Palo Alto Hills you might find this useful https://www.pahgcc.com/Files/Library/PAHPRICESHEETJAN2020.PDF
One thing to be aware of is that (at least in the past) young professional members at PAHGCC were limited to those open play times (i.e., not allowed to play early on weekend mornings)
Get the fuck out of here with that pricing. 45k initiation for a young professional membership? 1k a month? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hahaha. Just to be clear I have nothing to do with the prices and I’m not even a member at Palo Alto Hills, I just happened to know that this price sheet is online.
