No biggie. I was slow on the draw
Hey gang. Had a spot open up for the Foggy Trolley this weekend at Spanos Park in Stockton. Gonna be a gorgeous day. Lemme know!
Talk about good luck for weather… A few weeks ago I thought I’d finally have to buy rain gear…
gonna be gorjjjjjjjjjjjjj
Rest In Peace… the Back 9 of San Geronimo
From my teens through my 20’s. I only played San Geronimo 4 times… but to this day it’s my favorite 9 holes (back 9) in the North Bay. That’s just me though. Highlights from my evening stroll today. Bittersweet.
Thanks for posting these, I’ve been wondering how it looks. Not sure what would be worse, if the fairways were so overgrown that you couldn’t see the old course, or this where you can still see the course that was. It almost looks playable at this point but sure that grass is longer than it looks.
Honestly… I’d been thinking on checking it out for a long time now… as in, I’m pretty sure if we rolled out when it was hot AF the last few years it would be like going back to 1656 or something. I’m not an agronomist, but it’s interesting to see native grasses grow back and take over. Place looked awesome, just super wet which is understandable.
Yeah the real problem is now that it’s growing out, whenever the NEXT drought comes and that stuff is dry tinder, the golf course no longer acts as a firebreak and instead will literally add fuel to any fire that comes by. The entire way the sale of that course went down is just so continually disappointing.
I’ve probably hiked the course and Roy’s Redwoods about 100 times since it closed. No one is ever there! It’s a great spot for the dog off leash. I’d be 50x better as a golf course, or at worst, a nine hole golf course. Just awful. Terrible back room deal by the county and Trust For Public Land.
Edit: to be clear, when I said no one is ever there, I was exaggerating, but usually I see 5-10 people. Would be much more useful to more people as a public golf course. Heck the course paid property taxes, sales tax, maybe a little income tax (I think it was netting 300-400k a year in income).
The course gets crazy over grown with thistle up to your shoulders, then they cut it back a couple times a year. We tried to picnic one day but it was awful, getting poked everywhere, ticks, etc.
Couldn’t have said it any better. My dog absolutely loves it and runs incredibly hard which is bittersweet because…I mean, damn. I couldn’t believe how quickly the greens died, and I’m surprised to still see so much of the course in these great pics from the @TheHonChiefJustice . I have friends who live across the street and can echo @greebs point about fire issues/concerns. It was the community emergency meet-up location in the event of fires, not sure if that’s still the case. Last I heard (August/September) the local fire department was using the clubhouse for staging or something. Nice to see some water in the ponds at least for the time being
Yeah that’s correct on the clubhouse, Marin County Fire has been there for almost two years. That’s a great use of the clubhouse. There has been talk of building a permanent facility on the property for the fire department. Again, that’s great, however there is room for that, hiking trails, community center/bar/restaurant, and a great 9 hole golf course. Unfortunately there is no hope at this point.
such a shame. A restaurant/bar adjacent to a new firehouse with a family friendly 9-holer would be an absolute dream. And it could be done tastefully with consideration to the surrounding beauty and tight-knit community in West Marin while bringing in some revenue. We’re left to revel in the joy of our off-leash dogs running down the fairways. Look out for ticks when it’s playing soft, thistles when it’s playing firm and fast
Yes absolutely, you’re preaching to the choir. I’ve spent way too much time thinking about this, discussing on Nextdoor (sadly lol), etc. I bought a house in Fairfax in late 2019 and while I absolutely love living here, the one issue is we don’t have convention access to golf (obviously ignoring Meadow Club).
As you said, the property could have been something very special with the right people involved, unfortunately it went down a path 3-4 years ago with people involved that never wanted it to be a golf course.
My wife and I ended up taking our baby and the dog out to SGVGC this afternoon.
Having a solid pre round workout before the Foggy Trolley. Watching Tourist Sauce Australia while making dinner…
I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for TS Oz.
