Same as many already - young family certainly put the brakes on the number of rounds I was playing. I found that I was playing more late evening rounds and trying to get in as many holes I could more than I was playing full 18 or medals. Also it helped that my pals were having kids about the same time so wives were happy to meet up and discuss battle stories and me and the lads were able to hop onto the course. And having a father-in-law that plays nearly every day helps as my wife and kids can go visit their grandmother while we head out and play. Flexibility, planning and taking your opportunity when it presents itself is my experience of balancing parenthood and golf.

Honestly I think it’s the word ā€œwokeā€ and what that implies. Like I don’t know that St. Andrews and pinehurst are a better golf experience than my local muni. I think ā€œwokeā€ golf media got in over it’s skis and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Please see the buck club thread for evidence.

In summary,

Any world class golf nearby?!

Asking for a friend of course…

Actually yes. I’m pretty centrally located to NYC, Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and Baltimore.

In all honesty, if you ever want to travel to the states and make it a ā€œbusinessā€ trip, I’m sure I could get you a week or two as a guest preacher. Especially during the summer.

Yeah, I guess that’s the census. Family time is only real common reason why people don’t play golf, but are still golf sickos.

this may sound weird, but I actually found it easier to play right after my first little one was born. Once you get out of the ā€œsurvivalā€ mode of the first few weeks and get your schedule/routine down, I could find time to sneak away without missing anything/shirking responsibilities. That little one is now almost 3 and has a 1 yr old little brother–much harder to get a round in now…

I’ve been hoping for exactly this myself. Our first is 10 weeks old and we’re super lucky in that my wife’s parents are obsessed with their granddaughter and we live close by. I feel like (desperate to convince myself?) there’s going to be enough times during the weekend in the summer for me to sneak away to play.

My wife and certainly her parents FER SURE won’t miss me just kind of hanging around the house when it’s nice out…I hope.
