What’s the marathon route, is it at all similar to the UCI worlds road route? If so, you could get real familiar with the hills on a good Zwift setup if you have the treadmill pod.

Don’t totally remember UCI beyond going up and down Broad/Franklin/Monument and into Libby Hill. But not really very similar. Marathon goes from downtown, then west along Monument/Cary, across the river, back east to Belvid., then back through the Fan, into Northside before turning back downtown to Brown’s Island.

Maybe we need a running richmond refuge thread ha!

I am running the new va credit union river city half marathon in March (route looks really cool)! The richmond half in Nov was fun but I havent ripped off the bandaid for full/marathon yet.

Anyone run Ragnar Trail Richmond?! I have been running that for years and we are always open for alternates or people who like to trail run 16 total miles at dark while camping in between ha.

Cheers and happy running.

Hadn’t heard about this one! Two things jump out at me: 1. Be glad you’re running NORTH across the Nickel Bridge instead of having to come up the huge hill south of the river and 2. It’s basically a tour of all the houses I’ll never afford!

Yep, you’re right. Not very much overlap. Looks like a pretty good marathon route for a first-timer, though! Hilly, but not punishing, and the hard work is mostly done at mile 18.

The marathon doesn’t start til mile 18

At least they have you running straight downhill at the finish. It’s quite a workout to watch as an out of shape spectator. My wife ran the Richmond Marathon a few years ago, and i’m used to watching her races on the flat terrain around Virginia Beach.

Add an RVA tattoo thread and a thread debating the merits of rainbow cookies and you’ve reached peak Richmond.

Random question of the morning.

Do courses around Richmond tend to aerate their greens in March, or does it vary greatly depending on the course? I’ll be heading up that way for a golf trip around the third week of April.

I think we’ll be playing at Dogwood Trace, Magnolia Green and The Golf Club at the Highlands. Looking at the map, I guess this would be more of a Chesterfield golf trip.

For real…for me it was always mile 20 is where the suffering really starts.

Federal Club spring aerification is 3/11-18. That is for a bentgrass course.

Speaking of running, is anyone doing the Monument 10K?

It’s a fun course for a marathon, and I don’t remember any of hills being very difficult. However, I also didn’t remember running by Buzz and Ned’s bbq at mile 20 and was really confused when I ate lunch there post-race and saw all runners going by directly in front of restaurant.

Looks like we (The Highlands) are not aerating until July 8th. Those are some fun courses if you haven’t played any of them. Let me know if you have any questions about the area or the courses.

At Meadowbrook this past year it was 4/10-4/12 and 9/5-9/7. Always bounces back quickly though I assume for the most part it would elsewhere too.
