Refuge Fitness Challenge—Tournament Details Posted

Well somehow I managed to completely cock up April. Where did that month go. RIP 9i.

In other news, ran a charity 5k today and knocked 44 seconds off my time.

wait April is over, shit.

okay. dispensation for this weekend to count as April, and I’ll post the may challenge on Monday!

(note: I’ve played six rounds this months carrying the full bag so this isn’t insider trading or anything)

You’re learned in the law…we get it

I thought the Pope gave dispensations?

I appreciate the extension, but I wasn’t going to make it up anyway, and the course I played yesterday was carts only.

Man, April should’ve been easy, I just couldn’t fucking get out to play. Managed to carry for 27 holes, 9 of which were on a par 28. In hindsight I should’ve walked two of the three rounds we played at a bachelor party, but would’ve been the only gui walking so decided to just go along with the boys.

The lesson I took away from April is I didn’t play enough golf. Lesson learned. Will try harder in May.

Lot of silence from @RobertHunter so I’m just doing a random assortment of exercises to cover the basics:

  • Daily yoga
  • Pushups
  • Squats
  • 5k run
  • Carry my bag

Anything else?

Yikes. Sorry, everyone. Going on the first post-vaccine trip this weekend and the week went by in about five seconds.

MAY CHALLENGE

You have to complete the following daily challenge four times before June 1.

  • 100 Push-ups
  • 100 Sit-ups
  • 100 Bodyweight Squats
  • 10k Run

Finishing out with a somewhat tough one. God speed. Final weigh-ins next month and I’ll post the details to how that’s all going to work sometime next week.

What club am I losing for May again?

It depends on how many monthly challenges you’ve managed to complete! Potentially a PW or 9i.

WOAH - I thought that First, Second, Etc referred to the actual month - not the total number of completed challenges.

Motivation is back babay

Oh, I get it now. I thought those were tied to specific months.

Wow, 10k is no joke and I am terrible at “running” but have to say no way I would’ve done this if it wasn’t for this thread so thanks @RobertHunter

Pro Tip: Don’t wait till 5:30 pm to decide you’re going to do this. Way too many squats, sit-ups, and push-ups to do after a 10k.

Did my first rep today and I concur. Spreading it out throughout the day for the remaining few :skull:

For me it’s about knowing I have the time for the 10k which I often don’t know about till much later in the workday.

Just wanted to send y’all a brief update as we enter the final week of the challenge season.

For a mix of reasons, we’ll be doing the tournament round portion of the Refuge Fitness Challenge virtually. Once it was clear that we weren’t going to be quite at the level where everyone might be comfortable with national travel, I started trying to set up five regional days for clusters of participants, but unfortunately two of the venues backed out and at that point it became clear that the virtual way is the best option.

Here’s how this is going to look (this will be very familiar for participants of the ESGC’s past two Oil Hardened Classics).

Requirements:

  • Play with another member of the Refuge/Nest (not necessarily a participant in the R.F.C)—if you don’t know anyone in your area let me know and we’ll figure something out.
  • The course must play at least 6300 yards from the tees you select.
  • Your round must be played in the month of June or July.
  • You cannot play your round until after your weigh-in and final stats post (I will post the final sheet this week).
  • There will be a prize for gross champion and net champion (based on score to par), plus a few other surprises based on the final weigh-in sheet numbers.
  • Make a post when you start your round, when you make the turn, and post your signed scorecard when you finish. Could be as simple as literally just saying “I’m starting my tournament round right now with @anon at The Municipal Golf Course, wish me luck!”
  • Enjoy yourself, and play some good golf!

Once the tournament season starts, I’ll start keeping an up-to-date leaderboard in a google sheet linked in the OP.

Best of luck with the last week, and looking forward to seeing the progress everyone has made!
