Refuge Book Club: Martyr! A Novel by Kaveh Akbar - TBD

Just picked up my copy of Age of Innocence. Need to finish a book my father-in-law lent me (can’t disappoint the in-laws) and finally caved in and got Disney+ but I should be good for June 12th.

My book order is in process. Hoping to be good for 6/12 :crossed_fingers:

Just ordered my book. But not sure I’ll be at the discussion. June 12th is my birthday, so depending on how the day/evening goes will depend on if I’m capable of discussing a book! haha.

I think Age of Innocence should be a pretty easy read.

Same deal here. 8.5 x 11 size book with 2 columns per page. Really bizarre at first but I’ll get over it… nice to be reading a book with paragraphs and chapters after getting through Austerlitz!

“The Two Columns of Hercules Publishing House” is a sweet publishing name.

Also for anyone who is interested, this book is also available on the Project Gutenberg site as a free book. I’ve never done much with that site, so I don’t know if you have to read it on a computer or if you can use a e-reader.

The irony is not lost.

Also free on Apple Books

I’ve never used that, but I should probably try it. Apple owns the rest of my life…

Had to order a paper copy. I really wish that I was in the Kindle game, but can’t bring myself to join the 21st century. Like the feel of turning pages way too much, almost brings a sense of comfort.

I have this same take so I still bought a hard copy! Also supported a local book store in the process so justified it that way

I’m the same. I love actual books. I’ve always wanted a legit “library” room in my house. (#NerdAlert haha).

Tried it for the first time with The Good Soldier. I stare at a computer all day for work. My eyes and brain can’t take it when I want to read at night. I also love to keep a massive, purely aspirational stack of books on my bedside table. Can’t do that with the iPad.

A print copy of Age of Innocence. This is the weapon of a Refuge bookclub member. Not as clumsy or random as an e-reader. An elegant medium … for a more civilized age.

I’ll actually receive the book in time this time around! Hopefully I manage to read it in time.

Hoopla, which is the digital app and platform for the Jacksonville Public Library system has Age of Innocence as both an ebook and audiobook. If you have a library card, check out the digital resources tied to it.

Here is a pdf of the book provided by Google books if anyone needs a quick link.
