Refuge Book Club: Martyr! A Novel by Kaveh Akbar - TBD

Not for discussion, but we had my daughters back to school (via Zoom) last night and her Science teacher talked about how she’s created a Seed Library here in the county and that our middle school has its own seed library and it took all my restraint to not scream out, HAVE YOU READ THE OVERSTORY OH MY GOD

Ugh. Going to miss tonight. Sux. Was really looking forward to this.

Ah, that’s a bummer for us, too. (Post your movie casting takes later!)

Also won’t make tonight unfortunately (traveling to Sweetens actually). Enjoy the discussion!

I weep for you

Sadly, I won’t be able to make it tonight, either. I’ll hope to be back for Eileen at the end of the month!

If there’s too many who can’t make it and don’t want to miss out I’m happy to push to next week or so

Post summer, Wednesdays are the day my twin teens both take a vehicle for their own needs and leave me at home alone with my thoughts and a good book (or good book discussion). I’m good for tonight but can certainly hold out to pull a few more into the mix.

If y’all were to wait I might have a chance to finish this book that is taking me an eternity to read! I’m about 35% through it now.

Apologies for being MIA recently, I’m still in for tonight and have some thoughts/questions compiled, but happy to push back if that’s general consensus

Edit: @Sarah I think we go with it and can always have another discussion because there is definitelyyyy enough content ha

Don’t wait on my account. After a busy month at work, I’m only a third of the way through the book . . . so you could say I was really planning on putting my English major practice to work tonight, if I could make it.

I’d vote to hold out becuase it would give more people the opportunity to participate

I agree, I think there’s only 3-4 of us available tonight it seems

Perhaps the 16th would give a nice two week buffer between “Eileen?”

I’m noticing the common ground in the 1/3 done and 35%. I think all in the finished category will quickly agree this is the tough sled. For sure the back 50% is the payoff for the work in the front. Stick with it and join us on the other side.

Agreed! I’m also having a “pass out after a long day” type of day so that works great for me

Updated thread title for a 16th and 30th double-discussion mid and late September.

I’d invite those that don’t make it to the end and want to jump on to see where their initial efforts were leading to certainly join us. No shame in not finding the end of this one.

Happy Reading All!

I’ve been wanting to participate in the Overstory discussion but was ashamed that I hadn’t finished, so I’m excited to see the postponement. Hope to see y’all on the 16th.
