Given that nobody I talk to can reconcile that I’m in a book club with folks from a golf message board but we don’t read books about golf … it might be just so crazy it could work! I’m up for most anything.
Shot in the dark but I assume most people have already read Golf in the Kingdom?
Shocker: I did.
Actual shocker, perhaps: I did not like it, almost at all.
We seem literally lock-step in our literary enjoyment/tastes and we depart on “Golf In The Kingdom.”??? I think it fits my solo sunrise —more medicinal than sport — golf mindset I suppose.
An obscure historical fiction piece I ran across a couple years ago was “John J. McDermott & the 1971 US Open”. A light but interesting topic. Would also certainly think we could ring in 2022 Refuge Club w a golf read of some sort—-Trap Draw lists certainly have some great picks.
I think that would be a good idea! At some point circle around to golf
Edit: also good for people with 2022 resolutions to read more who have been shy to get involved with book club!
Going to miss tomorrow unfortunately. I’m currently the Washington Generals and life is the Harlem Globetrotters. Can’t wait to join up with y’all in 2022.
Is anyone able to post a zoom for tomorrow? (@mcdonart22?)
I’m not going to be able to make it tonight, but if no one else can set up the Zoom, I can totally set it up, log in and give control over to someone else to run it if need be. Let me know! Can’t wait to catch up with everyone post-holidays!
We’ll miss you! but that would be great if you’re able to set up zoom (I can take over control)
Sarah:
I too won’t be able to make it tonight. Life is just giving me a big ole “F U” around every corner. Should be good for next month and looking forward to seeing what is picked!

Okay I see it’s at 6:00. I will be there!
Most awkward handoff ever on my part. Sorry about that!
We all wanted to wish you good luck on your finals! Go get 'er done. Thanks for the Zoom!
Thank you!
Great work to the folks who made it out and made it through the book! We missed you those who didn’t make it (cc @BeenMacKenzied !)
Really appreciated the conversation on a book that was a frustrating, challenging, but overall rewarding read! Always look forward to these discussions
For the next book we’ve picked Golf Dreams by John Updike. Figured it was time our golf related book club landed on a golf book . This was one a couple of the guests on the TrapDraw golf book pod had highlighted but we figured we weren’t staying too far from our literary roots. Also the short story format ought to be enjoyable over the holidays!
Aiming for Jan 12 discussion
(@OffTheDole can you update title please!)
Yeah. Chastised appropriately. I just did not make it happen. Sorry to have missed it.
Not a big reader, I try but seems like every time I just don’t make it through what ever I am reading. Saw this new selection and thought I would give it a shot especially with the short story format. Went to Amazon to look at the book and was thinking to myself “is this the same author as Animal Farm?” Turns out I really show how into books I am as I learn Animal Farm is written by George Orwell. I don’t know how my brain thought this but I guess I really didn’t pay that much attention in high school English after all.
So I scroll down the Amazon listing to see their listing of other books titles by this author and I eventually come to that area and just after their “Other books you would like listing” is a section called related post and the first one is for this golf cart cooler and there in the lower corner sure enough is the NLU Nest logo!!
Those Amazon algorithms really do work!!
So of course I had to order the book now!
F’ing love Updike. Read that one awhile back and can’t wait to read it again after Xmas and jump back into that #bookclublyfe
