I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to make it tonight, so it might be better for @JScore to set up the Zoom if that’s okay. Hope to be able to make it, but if not, I’ll be back for the next one!
I may be a little late to the zoom, but I’m going to try to make it!
I read and really enjoyed the book, but I think I’m going to miss again. Really hope I can make the next one.
I have been swamped at work lately and thought I would have to miss this month to spend some good ole family time. But starting at 9 eastern means everyone will be in bed by then! Can’t wait.
Oddball medical disclosure for me— got hit by a Bell’s palsy episode a week ago. On the mend but this crap is nasty. Was gonna skip but love this book and would love to listen in and try to discuss.
Will keep the camera off as my eyes are likely to be tired and spent from the day. If speech is slurred I’m honestly fine and not drunk (it’s decaf people).
Need some normalcy in my life. Thankfully reading has helped the eyes focus and heal, and listening to your thoughts on this one will fill the soul a bit.
All my best to you and I very much hope for a swift recovery! Glad you are able to make it tonight!
I hope you’re doing okay and echo the wish for swift recovery! Having you there in any capacity is better than none!
Sending good vibes your way.
New zoom link!
Looks like we’re waiting on meeting to start…Efforting a different Zoom…
Edit: thanks Vinegar!
Saving the day after @JScore is having an… interesting… evening haha
Sorry all. Between police canvassing the neighborhod for an armed robbery suspect, dinner at the country club, range time with the kiddo, and bed time routine, I lost track of time and forgot to fire it up.
Thanks @MrVinegar206 for the backup
Thanks everyone for the discussion. As always, seeing things in the book I haven’t seen before and wouldn’t have without you all! Great to have some new faces and see some of the regulars again!
Thanks @JScore and @MrVinegar206 for helping out with zoom
Next book: The Last Ballad by Wiley Cash
Date TBD
@OffTheDole /@ChickPhilA / @shadowmods could someone update the title of the thread?
I got you!
As @Sarah stated, the discussion really helped me enjoy the book even more! People pointed out things to appreciate in the structure and context of the story. It’s one I will try to remember to re-read.
Forgot to ask last night but what did everyone think about the narrator changes in Goon Squad compared to Trust Exercise?
I preferred the Goon Squad changes to the Trust Exercise changes. Both were interesting, but I suppose I prefer a reliable narrator.
I’m always cool with an unreliable narrator but eventually I need to know why they’re unreliable. For example (spoilers ahead) for
Gone Girl, I LOVED the idea that there was not one but TWO unreliable narrators. And while the book fell far short of literary fiction, we did learn why they were both lying to us.
When I’m left to wonder why I’m not getting the full truth from a narrator like I did in Trust Exercise, it’s interesting but for me not that fulfilling.
