The Nickel Boys is awesome so far, I’m hooked. And very fitting with the times. Appreciate the insight into the Civil Rights Movement, albeit a fictionalized version. Nice rec @greebs

Like others, just heard @Randy’s shoutout the book club on the trapdraw. I was just saying the other day I want to expand my reading and get back to it this summer, since the school year ends tomorrow this will be a great opportunity. Looking forward to it, thanks everybody!

Awesome! I know on zoom we talked about fitting Overstory in before Nickel Boys as a bonus discussion since several people had already read it, but I’m thinking we may wish to reverse the order because (a) people have picked up Overstory and it would be great to give folks time to get through it and (b) lots of people have come aboard this thread and even joined the Refuge after hearing Randy talk about book club/Nickel Boys on the TrapDraw pod and so I’m hesitant to delay Nickel Boys and lose that interest!
According I’m thinking roughly the following for dates:

Overstory- September
Would love to hear what works for others of course!! I’m flexible (especially since I’ve finished Overstory and think Nickel Boys won’t take long) and excited to get as many folks involved as possible

Paperback of Nickel Boys shipping on Tuesday. I needed some motivation to get in to a good book so thank you all for that!

I’m coming at both of these having already read them (and loving both).
Love the thought of moving the bonus discussion back to allow some others to read that too. A couple solid summer reads for sure. Looks like paperback release day for ‘The Nickel Boys’ is 6/30 so early August and mid-September gapping might be good? And allow for an additional pre-holiday read and discussion before the year ends?

I saw last night that COSTCO is carrying The Nickel Boys for anyone looking to get the book ASAP. I haven’t gone to see that it’s there, but it was in their most recent mailer then sent, in Phoenix at least.

Just a reminder that the paperback edition publishes today, so if you were waiting for the PB edition (like me) you can grab it now from your local bookstore
I will try to make the end of July/August for Nickel Boys. One of my closest friends just published his first book - for soccer fans, particularly Greek soccer fans you might be interested - on Greece winning the Euro 2004 championships.
Hopefully I can finish that and then get through Nickel Boys in the next month.
Just getting into TNB, enjoying it so far and not really what I was expecting! (Although I didn’t look up too much when we decided on it haha)
Want to get a tentative date down so everyone can plan accordingly? Wednesday July 29th or August 5th?
