PGA 2K23 Refuge Tour - Info Post #9562 - S24 Begins 11/25

I would advice against this. I did a little testing earlier, and because the swing path is the primary way they make shot shaping “harder”, if you turn off the swing path altogether, a purposeful banana slice is just as easy to hit as a dead straight ball, swing path wise. They don’t make the path targets any smaller (currently)

I played on legend difficulty with the off-center swing completely disabled, and was hitting most shots totally pure, since there’s also not much penalty for rhythm misses

Maybe leave swing bias open, but leave Context Input Offset (for fades/draws, and lie penalties) on, so if you are hitting off the side of a bunker it’s still hard.

As I’ve dove deeper into the settings, I agree. To complete some challenges yesterday I bumped all the way up to the Legend preset, and even with the diagonal swing path enabled, was doing fine. There are so many settings to tweak it will take some testing to find a fun but still challenging setting. What I may end up doing is tracking what TGCT does and then dial it back from that a notch or two, and use that for the Refuge Tour. That has been pretty much what we’ve done since the 2K21 days.

FYI if anyone is having issue with actually firing at pins, and seemingly missing even on good swings…if your target point jumps off the pin when you hit the reset-shot button (right bumper) you’re game is bugged and the aimpoint is wrong

this is me on perfect swing, aiming at the pin, hitting reset-shot, and then aiming at the pin again a few times.

when I adjust my aimpoint to be ON THE PIN, I miss left (with a fade bias), even on a good swing, when I don’t and the aim point is off the pine. I nearly hole it. I used Perfect Swing to make sure it’s not MY swing that is fucking up. I did this a half dozen times and it always misses the pin when I adjust, and always goes dead at the pin when I don’t.

Fix: on PC delete your player#####.data file and reboot the game. No fix yet for consoles until day 1 patch

yup, I think that’s a safe course of action. Though the TGC folks I’ve chatted with a lobbying for HB to make the legend swing harder, since too many Platt-holes are already hitting 10 under par on the demo haha (HB has been requesting full round videos with difficulty settings shown, so they can use it as feedback).

yay for day 1 patches! Did deleting the .data file reset any of the player attributes or level up stuff for you?

I agree Legend needs to be harder, on 23 on Legend I can barely get the ball to go forward, forget perfect swings. TGCT shouldn’t need to ramp the difficulty up to the hardest tier, Master has always been the sweet spot for them without alienating a huge portion of the player base.

Nope, just reset all my settings, and made me go through the tutorial again.
Also might have given me 500 extra VC, but I think that only worked once (I bounced back and forth a few times to confirm the fix). Both the MyPlayers I had, and all the quest progression was still there

Where would I find the player data file? I sniffed around in the Steam files a bit and didn’t see it. I’m not really concerned with the first look demo, but figured I could take 500 free VC if it does that

So…PlayStation Network is down? Tried to play last night and can’t access anything outside of the basic courses, but I have no stats or anything. Pretty wild how much is over PSN vs local to the game. Minor impact in my life but I can’t imagine what’s happening around the world.

Still down? Was definitely down last night. Was able to play some college football, but not golf, and I usually stream the Kings games on ESPN+ through my PS5 and the quality was terrible last night.

I think so, I’ll admit I didn’t fire up my PS5, just looked online this morning and looked like there was still a lot of traffic about it.

I’m currently down with a pretty nasty flu, but I’ll try to cobble some silly szn stuff together to start late this week. In the meantime please remember to complete rounds for the Butt Cup!

Plan is to finalize Butt Cup scores either tomorrow evening or at some point on Thursday. If things work out I may also be able to stream some of my silly szn rounds on Saturday.

Also I’m gonna schedule every event for the next season of the Refuge Tour at the back nine of TPC Scottsdale. I was hoping the demo would switch courses after Phoenix week but now it might be tricking me into thinking I’m good at 2k25

I got around to trying out the 2k25 demo tonight and my initial thoughts are:

  • THEY FINALLY FIXED THE DROP SYSTEM
  • the ball physics are way better
  • The new swing system is weird at first but not too bad of an adjustment

Silly last publish of 2k23 from me

Chambers Bay, ON ICE
image

Admittedly a silly course. Wanted to get an updated version of Chambers in 2k23, but Chris Denomy posted a “good” version with the updated bunker outlines and more that just 1 tee location, so I pivoted so something silly, and a way that you would never be able to play Chambers, in the snow! Silly frost delays.

Also I haven’t found any Chambers courses that use the lower tees on 9, so 2 of the 5 tees use the lower teeing area, as it tradition in the winter at Chambers

Back story/Course details

I most frequently play Chambers Bay in the winter. Mostly because the rate is easier to swallow, but it’s the best winter course in the PNW.
Because I am able play it frequently, I sometimes play it from 5555 yards, which is a set of tees that bounces around from front to almost-back tees, and adds up to close to 5555 yards. I wanted to make a set of tees that were truly 5555 yards. (they are the circled tees on the official score card)

On my published course the Blacks are the 5555s.
Golds are more or less the US Open tees.
Red/white/Blue are a sort of triple combo set, that are sometimes all on the same tee, sometime red/white are the same, some times white/blue are the same
The par 3’s 8 and 17 where they alternate which is a “upper” tee box which is a “lower” tee box. Once November hits, IRL chambers play hole 9 from the lower tees until around April or May, so this course needed to have some tees on the lower approach to Hole 9. It is a very different hole from over there.

Greens speed is published at 186/Very fast (even if the course details page just says fast), but the greens are soft. If you hit them on a flat spot you’ll be safe. if not you’ll likely be ejected
Pins 1 -3 are a pretty standard front-middle-back rotation, with a few exceptions
Pin 4 for a hardest I could find for a “legal” pin location
that said the pins are probably not “legal”, as it is published at 186, and exactly 0 re-shaping was done to the Green slope

The course designer in 2k25 is getting a BIG visual overhaul, including one change that will make a huge impact on making the bunkers at Chambers look more accurate, so I expect there will be more than 1 person rushing to do a Chambers plot

Shoot I thought we had tip end of week…doing mine now. I laid an egg first round so won’t be contending.

I can leave it open for scores until Friday evening if that helps, if there are others who need time to play. There’s really no rush, Silly Szn can open as well and we can have both without issue.

Let’s do this, I will punt finalizing Butt Cup until Sunday, give everyone who still wants to play time. There’s no reason to rush and deny people the opportunity to post a score.

We’ll also go ahead and fire up Silly Szn. In the spreadsheet, you’ll notice 4 new events on the schedule with courses and settings. There are also tabs with leaderboards for each one. There are dates on the schedule but that’s just so there is something scheduled for those players who want to play in the societies. Basically, over the next week or so, play the rounds and post your scores. The society events are only a couple days each so if you miss one, fire it up on your own. No flights, just go give it the best you can for bragging rights.

For those who want #content, I give you the hour long video detailing all of the holes of Fried Egg Golf’s TGL Island with Andy and co: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlbxEFDs2-8 (Andy’s reactions and the discussion is worth the video length)

On 2/21 advanced access for 2K25 begins, so my time will be spent on the new game leveling up a player to try to figure settings out. Right now I’m leaning towards Pro swing difficulty but more testing will be needed. The one thing I can say for sure, swing bias is going to be on.

Looks like the devs are already making changes to the way the swing works in 2K25. Fired up the demo again and everything is a dead pull for me, my natural swing path tendency has a little loop on the backswing. Before, it read the swing path on where the downswing started, now, it’s where the backswing ends

This used to be pretty much dead on accurate for swing path
