I’m just waiting for the first person to report getting got by a flying car

I have never taking the time to really get in to this. Might explain why I was decent in the old versions of the game that didn’t have it, and absolute garbage in this version.

RM kicked me in the cojones.

Holy shit, I never knew where 5858 came from, and now I can’t stop laughing…

It’s such a huge difference. Off the top of my head I’d guess 30-40 yards of driver distance with orange fittings, plus much bigger allowances for swing path and timing, tighter lie ranges to take some of the guesswork there out. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal for putting but everywhere else it’s like a different game without them

Just signed up. How high do I need to finish to get one o’them big checks?

Orange fittings?

Also, I don’t suppose any of the real good players wanna share their player archetype?

The fittings are in tiers by color, grey-green-blue-purple-orange with orange being the best ones (can’t remember if they have names but it would be Legendary in Fortnite speak).

Those are going to give you crazy boosts like +14 power, +8 timing, -4 shaping, etc where if you stack the stats that matter for each club(s) with the head, shaft (way too early Refuge after dark), and grip you can basically have superclubs.

It’s a bit of a pain in the butt to do all the exchanging and upgrading needed to get up to all purples/oranges, but curating a good set of fittings is such a huge improvement in performance

I’d happily share my player setup and fittings when I’m home later, but if I recall I chose a different archetype than most have

I never bothered to find out what this was about and now I can’t stop laughing at it

My archetype is the tempo one or whatever it is, that helps with the fast/slow misses. I still suck, but it helps.

Some helpful tutorials I went and grabbed from up thread that I will add to the info post as well

Edit: turns out I can’t edit the info post anymore, but I guess they can live here for now. Worth a watch even if you’ve been playing the game, the Skill Points is something that escaped me for about a month of playing the game because I ignored the in-game tutorials.

Gotcha, they are red on Xbox, so I was thinking maybe I’m missing out on some new level that I was unaware of.

No hyperbole, I laughed for like 20 minutes straight this day about this. It was so good in real-time.

The archetypes basically set your baseline ratings for each skill, one is more power oriented, one is tempo, etc - all have pros and cons and just redistribute the same amount of total rating points across areas. The club fittings then adjust (mostly improve) those ratings from the baseline

I actually use sculptor, I think I valued the decent combo of power and swing path along with the ability to move it around big doglegs and make bigger adjustments to hit exact approach numbers easier. I very heavily compensate for the bad Timing attribute with fittings through most of the bag, but tempo and woodsman are probably generally more advisable.

In terms of fittings

  • Driver I actually still leave a bit of power on the table to have timing and path boosted, my stock distance is 293
  • 3-wood I personally have almost maxed out on power with pretty bad path/timing just to make it possible to reach nearly any par 5 in two, but I definitely notice that it is the easiest club for me to hit squirrelly ones with by some margin as a result
  • Hybrid and 4/5 iron are reasonably balanced, but lean a little more toward power to limit the gap to 3-wood and have broader coverage in that 190-230 yardage range
  • 6 iron-PW lean slightly more to the timing/path side, but enough power to keep the gapping reasonable
  • Wedges go very heavily toward timing/path, with a bit of a look at lie range as well
  • Putter I pretty much exclusively focus on weight since at least personally I never really find any issue keeping path straight enough

My scores were horrendous but I must say, kudos to the designer for the transcendent infrastructure. The Strapped Boys would be proud.

Nice breakdown. Good for me to see from someone who’s been kicking my ass all season. I upgraded to a PS5 a few weeks ago and the new controller has not been friendly to me (Yes I recognize the tour sauce to blame my upgraded video game equipment)

I use the Rhythm archetype which I think most the top players use. I see people using powerhouse on the 1:1 matches but seems the struggle with timing.

Pretty similar for Fittings.

  • Driver - Mostly power but a little timing
  • 3-wood - All power. And I do use this off the tee a lot. I make a point to ensure I’m hitting almost all of my fairways.
*3-iron-PW - Don’t carry a hybrid…maybe I should. The power boost from the 3-iron closes the gap really well to the 3-wood. I also don’t have different fittings on my irons which I totally should…
*Wedges - I have a lot of shot shaping on mine to get extra spin. Never been convinced this is the right move. But I also avoid pitch shots as much as possible. Definitely prefer the full wedge swings.
    *Putter - All putting weight.

This is all fascinating, thank you @kmart796 and @WhineyCracker52 for sharing. I’m currently in Vegas, and can’t share mine, but I can’t wait to later this week.

The TL;DR version of my story: I thought the skill points would go up to 100 and you could earn max ratings on all the skills. So when I first got the game, I just started maxing categories out. It wasn’t until months later that I noticed I couldn’t earn more than 50! So I rebuilt, and man did actually choosing the skills make a massive improvement instead of just mindlessly filling out the checklist.

And TIL that people actually choose fittings that focus on specific areas! Up until today, I’ve just been focusing on whatever red fittings I can get that have +11, not necessarily caring where they improve. I bet there’s lot of areas that I can focus on to make me a better player.

I use to use rhythm, and went to bomber, changing all my fittings to tempo. I can hit driver pretty straight, even as a bomber, and going from a 281 carry to a 301 carry is a pretty big deal and opens up some lines that would otherwise be unavailable.

I personally also basically throw up a middle finger at the Transition attribute, which may or may not be the best approach but I gave up on really trying to hit the little sliver of white and end up with most of my shots at 101%. Haven’t felt that much of an impact but I could be missing something

Gold Mountain: Cascade has now been published!

(there is an older version, Gold Mountain Cascade (L) that doesn’t have as much polish, and as soon as I published it, I noticed some auto-gen trees had appeared in front of the first tee, which was incredibly discouraging.)
(There is no way to remove old courses)

The Olympic half is much farther off, but if you want to fly around this course the bones of Olympic do exist on the same map.

Me: I miss this game and playing against you jabronis every week.

Also me, 5 minutes after picking up the controller and getting a random red fast/slow: Fuck this game.
