I’ll share a link to the thread with the designer so he can come get a bunch of feedback. He’s been very receptive to it on TGCT.
How have you been able to do this? I can only seem to switch courses to other official HB Studios/2K courses in career mode
correct. Sorry by custom I meant the official courses which aren’t IRL courses.
If they’re actually looking for constructive feedback, almost everything I had issue with was related to the green speeds/firmness.
I was trying to play shots I’ve watched on TV forever trundle down into the right section of the green, but when I hit the same slope I was rolling (sometimes WAY) off the green. Similar for the “misses” where I hit the wrong section of the green, I feel like IRL they just funnel down 80 feet away from the pin on the green, but I was getting yeeted off
Same. I think this is simply a result of the Lidar data, I found the same issues when I worked on a course in 2K21, the greens and bunkers are the areas that need the most fine tuning. If the design intends to use Fast green speeds especially it just requires a lot of testing to the hole locations to ensure playability.
So I spend way more time than I’d care to admit on the designer. It’s a good time killer. I published my first course in 23, it’s called Friday Harbor Golf Club, if anyone wants to play and give some feedback I’d welcome that. And if this thread isn’t for that I’ll see my way out
Woof! That test was something. Finished +2 after a 3 putt bogey from about 8 feet on the 72nd hole. My biggest psycho scored of all time.
Eagle - 1
Birdies - 22
Bogies - 10
Double - 5
Triple+ - 2
Of course, I’d be happy to give the course a spin! I will hopefully be able to play later this evening
I played through on default settings, here are some overall thoughts and then following will be if I noticed anything in particular on a hole. I am not a course architecture guru or indeed knowledgeable about it at all, I just like what I like I guess.
Some of the tee boxes aren’t quite level - simple enough fix to go in and flatten them all
I’m not sure if this is by design, but I noticed the trap on the right of 8 with the sand up above the surrounding terrain. I feel like if it was a natural area/sand dune that’s fine, but since it’s a bunker it should be dug in a bit. Just my take on it.
- Love an opening par 5. Not ideal IRL due to pace of play issues, but this is virtual so why the heck not
- Good short 4. With the wind coming off the left it made me think about how to play it. My driver carry probably wasn’t going to be enough to carry the bunker so I played down to the right and pitched up to the green from there
- I duffed my tee shot so was on the upper level of the fairway, very cool approach to the green not being able to see anything but ocean and sky
- I bombed the tee ball over the bunker, but with the pin front left I was kind of left with a “well, shit” moment. I did not have a good pitch yardage left in, ball rolled back into the trap. Incidentally I do like the greens that run straight into sand
- What a view, what a tee shot. Feels like you’re hitting into the endless sky.
- if you want to take bombing it left over the trap out of play could plant some bigger trees, but I do appreciate being given the option.
- Cool fairway, you have options but you better hit your spot.
- Bombs away but you better be accurate, I had 125 left into the par 5 but got lucky with the wind helping
- Fuck that forced carry IRL, but this is a video game. Make the player make contact on the last tee shot or pay the price, I like it.
I appreciate the feedback. It was my first publish in the new game so I definitely think there’s room for growth, but thanks for taking it form a spin and letting me know your thoughts.
As I sit atop the Xbox leaderboard with a total score of 308 (+14), I see no problems with this game or this course. Bring it on.
Also, shout out to the par 5 10th hole.
For real though I am starting to develop a course list/settings for the new season, will keep an eye on this course and how it develops from now until April. I hope someone brings back the par 3 course too.
Played it on Xbox last night. Shot -3 with a quad on 7 due to short siding myself in the bunker. I didn’t find it unplayable but I play the same settings in My Career and I have been firing a lot of sub 60 rounds.
This game is too accurate. My miss is the same, I keep three putting from above the hole, and my rounds keep getting killed by a random triple. I love the realism but at what cost
So I may have missed in the video that was posted, but do I have it correct that you basically get three “fittings” per club at any given time? You get a club head, shaft, and grip fitting, and you can switch them in and out, and you can do, for example, power on the club head, timing on the shaft, and something shaping on the grip, but you can’t do power and timing on the shaft. Just one per club part per club, correct?
As far as I can tell that is how it works. You also can hold up to 100 fittings at a time in your inventory, you can trade 3 fittings of the same level (common, rare, legendary, etc) for a new one of that level, or you can trade them in for the VC equivalent (it’s like $30 for a common fitting, and scales up from there).
Obviously each fitting will be called “power” or “timing” or whatever, but I just pay attention to the stat bars and that’s how I choose what to use.
I think it’s $10 for common up to $50 for legendary. I probably wasted some VC before I realized how this works. Also, whatever the player boosts are, I have no idea how those are earned, but I just check it so often and I’ve got like ten extra points to use. Maybe in the long run this will all be better. I kind of miss the simplicity of the old game.
Gotcha, yeah I just remembered it was quite a low amount of VC. It can add up when trading in 50 of them at a time, but definitely a bit overwhelming at first to try to get into the nuts and bolts of how to build a player
Also, golf news coming soon. Will have full details later tonight when I am off work, but we’re going to be launching the new season with a very simplified format, flighted individual stroke play. This will be used to gauge interest, give players time to get the game (I’m guessing we’ll see a few new folks jump in over the holidays), and see how we want to move forward. Hopefully we’d bring teams and everything back for Season 2 of 2K23, but it’s a lot of work to get all of that set up.
Wait, we can only use 1 fitting at a time? I thought they all stacked?
