PGA 2K23 Refuge Tour - Info Post #9562 - S24 Begins 11/25

This makes a ton of sense. I should have specified, but I mostly meant the wind

This course reminded me why I hate this game sometimes :joy: I don’t know why but it hit on every element of things I hate.

How come? This was literally the most fun I’ve had in a few seasons.

I really liked Mullen, fwiw. The Sand Hills vibe was well-executed, and I liked the tee to green strategy. My only thought while playing was that I wish the greens were designed for fun and not for punishment. Not saying I don’t fully understand the desire to produce a testing course, which I thought it fit that bill pretty well. I just thought that the environment paired with some super fun greens would be probably be one of my favorites in the game.

So basically I’m just waiting for @Talented_Mr_Yipley to get through his St. Andrews-DMK design career phase and get to his Gamble Sands-DMK phase.

MRW I hear swing timing is coming back

So glad to hear swing timing is coming back. I play in another society that uses swing timing on Pro and it is much more interesting. With the current settings it’s just a putting contest.

I’m not totally sure…I actually think it had more to do with the setup/elements than the course itself. I though it was very well designed. But some of the physics of this game infuriate me. For example, when you’re hitting into a two or three club wind, say you’re hitting a 5 iron instead of 8. The ball flies straight up into the air, goes nowhere, but then the moment it hits the ground, rolls out like a 5 iron instead of stopping quickly like a ball hit into the wind actually does.

The others that I’m recalling now are when I’d land a shot one pace short of the green and it would violently shoot forward like there’s not spin at all instead of reacting like it would if I had landed it one pace onto the green.

So I think those criticisms are more targeted at the game physics than the course design. I just happened to have a lot more of those particular shots than I have recently.

I think it’s a problem of game physics and course setup. The guy who runs the Caddyshack Tour has fallen in love with super soft fairways with super firm greens, which means if you land an inch short of the green, your ball stops dead, and if it lands an inch onto the green, it bounces another 50 feet. I mean, it’s fake video game golf, so get the ball in the hole however, but I do enjoy it when there’s some small element of realism, and I would guess in real life you are far more likely to run into a course with firm fairways and soft greens than the other way around.

My favorite part of the Refuge Tour: ā€œI do enjoy it when there’s some small element of realismā€ and then fires rounds in the mid-50’s.

EDIT: This is not an attack on @wseitz26, I’m just using his quote in this specific instance.

Well, maybe that’s not realistic for you… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Week 6 Update

It was a tumultuous week with a lot of safety cars, a couple red flags, and pieces of carbon fiber all over the place, but most were able to finish. (this is obviously a nod to the F1 theme but reports are that someone smashed their driver to pieces over a tee marker and walked off the course)

Aston Martin continues a strong run with a W (tied overall score with Ferrari but the tiebreaker low score goes in their favor. Shoutout to Mclaren with a P3 and -69 cumulative score.

In the individual flight wins for the week:

Young Hitters:
@Enorma-Stitts hits back, this could be quite a season between him and @BlakeG

C-Suite:
@wseitz26 comes out strong and gets his 2nd W of the season

Strapped:
@seattlezero93 wins 3 in a row and is battlefield promoted to C-Suite. (half points carry over with you as well) So with that, @justmuckit, you will need to make a change to your lineup so that it is conforming, since you now have 3 C-Suite players and only 1 Strapped. Let me know what move you would like to make.

LPCP:
@JamesHCard comes out of nowhere, after missing 3 events earlier in the year. Many people are wondering what secrets he discovered during his time off (and also who the hell is this guy?).

New qualifiers for the week:

@Aham13 welcome to the Tour. You picked a wild week to qualify, I’m sorry and you’re welcome.

Team moves for the week:

This next event should not be a ball buster like the setup at Mullen was, still a course that requires shotmaking to really take it low, but hopefully will be more fun.

Nothing like being punished for being dominant. Moves have been sent to @Jeff_M, I’m sure he’ll announce soon.
