Unless the admins on each system decide to sit out, someone is going to have an unfair advantage. Besides, If you really want to play practice rounds under the right wind and pins/tees, you can just wait until the tournament starts and check them for yourself before starting each round. It’s not the practice rounds that make those guis better. They’re just better.
What, am I not supposed to have a detailed notes sheet for every tournament telling me what club to hit off of every tee?

I’ve had this happen twice. If you jar it on the bounce/fly it doesn’t read it. Pretty tilting.

My two cents: I’d love to see more real courses utilized, as opposed to just one or two per season. My favorite part of playing this game is seeing all the tracks I probably won’t have a shot at playing in real life.
My issue with real courses is most of them are trash in this game compared to the quality of fantasy courses…and we’ve used just about every good one I can think of at some point (along with many that aren’t very well done). The good ones also very large course files that are prone to causing significant lag on consoles.
There are always a few in the works…but to do one well takes more time than a high quality fantasy course and thus fewer of them come out. I say this as somebody that reviews most of the LiDAR courses that come into TGCT’s database. Of the 50ish real courses alive reviewed the last 90 days, I’ve given tour worthy status to 4:
- Castle Stuart (there’s a better version coming over the summer though)
- Meadowbrook (we will be playing next season)
- Arrow Creek (random private club in Lake Tahoe area)
- Scioto was also published the other day buy a designer who worked on it for a year to get it just right.
After I finish my contest course next week, I have LiDAR files in the works for The Loop, Prairie Dunes, and Pinehurst #2. The Loop is the furthest along but will probably still needs 50ish hours of work to be ready. I have a friend whose fairly far along with NGLA and Quoque Field Club so hopefully they get finished this summer too.

TL:DR There are a lot of shitty LiDAR and RCR course files in the database. Would you rather play a course with the topography of a real course but it has a horrible environment, is full of unintentional blind shots and wonky bounces/rolls because somebody thought all they had to do was pull in marked up LiDAR data and hit publish? Or would you rather play a virtual golf course that plays well in an engaging environment where the ball bounces and rolls as you expect it to do?
TTL:DR The Yuck Club (a collection of 18 world class real holes) is also coming soon. Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?

The LIDAR version of Kingsley is like this. It actually plays on the ground pretty well compared to the real course, but it looks terrible. Little to no effort was put into it. There was a version in TGC 2019 that looked pretty good and played well, but maybe it was never ported. Tough to get the tees right, as well, since we have multiple sets of tees on a couple different holes (full sets of gold through red tees that play at completely different angles.
On the other hand, Old Town was pretty fucking good.
Strapped beating C-Suite scores by 3 strokes is really something
I haven’t retained much knowledge from my stats degree, but definitely remember that crazy things can happen in small sample sizes!
