@midwestgolfbum is this the pre-cursor to a TSC hostile, or friendly I suppose we are from Wisconsin, takeover of Lawsonia?

Unless somebody else is going to manage the $85k that will take, no.

But think of the CC miles :money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face:

And I’ll likely commit seppoku trying to collect payment.

I’ll pass. 96 is already going to be enough of a headache.

It’s so easy to spend someone else’s money, isn’t it…

Oh, so this is how I find out you’re coming to my neck of the woods?*

*While I’ll be out of the country?

Wild theory but you know who should manage it? The golf course with the already-functioning payment system who is ultimately receiving the money.

He does this crap all the time

Same way Landmand does for you? There’s zero incentive for them to take on the risk of shutting down for 2 days for our group.

Lawsonia has offered me to let people pay at the course for the Ope. Here’s where the fun starts; it’s all still guaranteed on my card so just a single person doesn’t pay and I’m now on the hook. They also won’t track names for me, which I completely understand. Oh, and they want more for that vs the lump sum payment I do.

You read my mind. And I see your point, but there is a middle ground of “okay you can let people pay through our system, but we’re sending you an invoice for whatever the difference is between payments we collect and price we agreed upon”. Some risk to them but that’s what contracts are for. I plan to ask Landmand about this (50/50 on if I actually do, and much less chance they agree).

As fun in theory as it is to have the entire course to ourselves. At the current field of 96 people, we’d be looking at a $885.42 per person to make it all work. That wouldn’t even include the cost of lodging (for everyone) and/or flights. The cost at that point would make it difficult for people to justify making the trip, so there would likely be fall off of players.

Now, one could say that the field could be expanded. In order to maintain the current price per person that exists in the event at its current state, you would have to get over 200 people to participate. Which is absolutely insane to manage for anyone,

If you’re Lawsonia, what would the motivation be to take on a risk of $85k to a group when they can already fill the tee sheet without having to do so? Sure, they could provide a cutoff date for the whole group baking in enough time for them to refill the tee sheet for any money not paid, but that is added work for them that they don’t actually need to take on to make the money.

So it then comes back to a person holding a credit card.

Getting people to pay for anything on time can be a challenge, and not because people are bad or intentionally doing it. But life happens and things get hectic.

Ultimately, while the idea seems fun, it just doesn’t make any financial sense for anyone. Not the course, not the individual people, and especially not for @midwestgolfbum or anyone else.

Unless you are a business running an event like an NIT or a Steam Shovel things get to a point where it just doesn’t add up.

Personally I’m just grateful and happy for what we have currently and while not having to deal with any randos sounds nice, what we have is special and there is no need to change it.

Love you all and we are one day closer to The Ope ‘25. It’s going to a blast.

The broader issue here is to take over the facility would come down to numbers. To keep it in the range of cost it is now, it’s 200+ people, which goes to 8.5+ hours of tee times if I (or a group) even wanted to take on the task of managing that number of people (which I don’t).

Part of what I love about the ope is being able to still have it manageable enough that I can play in it and not have to worry about a lot. Expanding is likely not in the cards, unless I’m tapping in @Privatecollection to run things, which makes the Ope kinda no longer the Ope. No offense meant to Erin, of course.

Excuse me sir, how dare you do the math

Yeah, Ope and Cornstalk are very different situations. We already have the course rented for 2 days at Landmand. It’s the funneling of $45k through personal accounts part that I’m not totally crazy about.
