Pod 10 match update: @Buck (Jonathan) won 4&2 over Biarritz (Luke) at Glenview on Saturday, thereby punching his ticket into the round of 32.

Overall, Jonathan played extremely consistent and smart golf - something I have been trying to do my whole playing career to limited avail, especially as of late. By my count, he had only 2 doubles on the day (one of which came after the match was already closed out) and had only one hole with a lost ball.

We started our round on the South course, playing alongside @ jack67 and @ blackhammer who were competing in a match of their own. Jonathan & I matched bogeys on #1, though with a pop I took a 1up lead. We halved #2, before returning to AS on #3 after I blocked my first into the thicket right of the hole to take an X on the hole. Halved #4, then I won #5 to go 1up again after a nice tee shot that earned me closest to the pin (obligatory self-congratulatory shout out) and 2 putt par. But, Jonathan got it back to AS on #6 after I lipped out a 3-footer for par. Halved 7, then Jonathan went bogey-par on #8 and #9 (to my triple-triple…ugh) to make the turn at 2up.

His par-bogey on #1 and #2 West course (vs. my double-double) got him to 4up through 11. I clawed 2 back on #3 and #5 (we halved #4) with bogey net pars on both. Jonathan won #6 with a par to go dormie (3up, 3 to go) heading into #7 West. On #7 I chipped in…for bogey, after plunking my tee shot into the hazard. It was no match for the 2 putt par of the ever-consistent Jonathan, closing things out at 4&2.

A great day with some great guys (shoutout to @ jack67 for his Polaroid capture of the day a few posts back) and thoroughly fun all around. @Buck and I talked about a final Pod 10 capstone match in the next few weeks where he and @ MDM (both 2-0-0) can compete for the #1 seed in the pod, and @DP123 and I (both 0-2-0) can vie for the equivalent of the pod’s #1 draft pick for 2023

Great writeup @Biarritz!

I’ve got all the matches update through your post now. Time for me to start making up the Elimination round page on the spreadsheet since we’ve got at least 3 players confirmed as moving forward now!

Could you throw out a reminder of how that is going to be seeded?

32-person horse race

I’m pretty sure that @jack67 solidified the second spot advancing in pod 9 with his win over @blackhammer. Our only match left to play is myself and BH and neither of us can overtake him with a win.

The round of 32 is just a duck race for the headcover. We just don’t know it yet.

Absolutely!

First and foremost, and I’ll repeat this at the end for emphasis probably, but the first thing we’re going to do is use the zip codes to try and keep the early round elimination matches close together.

Second: The winner of each pod will not face the winner of any other pod in the round of 32.

Next: We’re going to do our absolute best to seed the highest point winners vs the lowest runner ups etc.

Again. Everything will be somewhat fluid based mostly on where people are located. I don’t want to make people have to travel hours early in the bracket.

Just took a look and you are correct.

@nohio and @jack67 will be advancing out of Pod 9.

I’m doing my best to make this a true TC Way run event/tournament. Going to use my best judgement to pair people up for the round of 32. But once that bracket is set, it’s set. There won’t be any reseeding for future rounds.

It’s going to be a “fun” puzzle just like figuring out pods was.

Seeding via geography is the smartest thing and I (all of us) are very appreciative of you setting this up and continuing to do all the leg work for it. These matches are at least all against similar kind of people, where a matchplay set up through NOGA would probably yield some mega hardos that are no fun to play with.

Can confirm that this was a match for the true sickos.

I’m sidenoting this if anyone wants a custom pouch or a coin - I am fledging my inner @flanwilder and pushing my little side gig. Will not have that level of production capacity, but those looking for something for a friend or themselves I am open for business!

If anyone is wondering, I got these in hand on Saturday, they are amazing and so are the ball markers that @Twowaymiss made as well.

I need to make a public apology to @golf4miami and @OhioStateBrady. There was a 3 way match to be played at the Cincy Shakedown, but due to some personal issues, I went completely offline for a 4-5 day span and went MIA on them.

If they have the time and place to get the rounds in still, I will set my schedule to make our matches work on their time and get us back on track. Otherwise, I will take the W/D and hand them the respective wins.

Honestly, I’m just glad to see you back on here. Personal issues definitely take priority over some silly golf message board.

I was too busy galivanting through the woods on Saturday to commit the holes to memory.

tl;dr

smithburger over nsenak89 4&3
nelso2jf over nsena89 8&7

Both @nelso2jf and I tried to give @NSenak88 the match but he is ever the gentlemen and refused to accept. You don’t meet many people with a heart that big these days. Despite the rough round for the entire group it was great fun and great weather. I look forward to playing with all three in the group (shoutout @vsquared64) again some time.

Thanks for that update! Looks like that more than confirms @nelso2jf is going to be the winner of Pod #2.

Then we’ve got a very interesting situation brewing for the second advancing spot out of that Pod.

@Moomba and @NSenak88 are the last match to be played. If Moomba wins, he will advance. If NSenak88 wins, there will be a three way tie of people with 3 points that’ll need to be broken.

It truly was the great pillowfight I’ve ever had. Unfortunately mine lost the most feathers and got deflated entirely.

Do any NEOH pods wanna get a match in early AM on Saturday 5/7? I may be playing mine with @clevelandgooner that day. I’m hoping to play as early as possible. Let me know and I’ll start a group DM or text to discuss course and times. Craic on!
