Ball markers will be donated as well
How much is needed?
For those continuing its $20.
Not sure on the ball markers yet. I’m not gonna let Jim get away unpaid.
My bad. Totally forgot, even with the reminder. Payment has been sent!
Thank you so much for doing all the work to make this happen. Seriously. As a first-timer, it’s been really, really fun, and I can’t wait for that next match with @pjsutherland
While we’re on that topic, if you already know who your next round opponent is, feel free to go ahead and schedule that if you’d like. No need to wait.
I’m good on markers are a donation
Thanks for the reminder, sometimes it’s hard to extract and retain information like that from this cesspool that is the refuge.
@SRS_One and myself squared off today at the host of the 2024 match play championship Columbus CC with @ZekeH5 and @PlumbBobMillionaire as markers competing in a side match. It was a beauty of a day with some legit great golf played by all four of us.
A couple of early pars on holes 1, 3 & 5 helped me build an early 3 up lead as Scott was getting his footing on the tricky Ross greens.
By hole 6 everyone had settled into the round. I hit a drive a little too far right into the fescue and had to take a drop while Scott hit a very solid drive. From there I was able to put my third on the green while Scott found the left bunker. With a bit of good luck I was able to curl in 20 footer for par while Scott’s par putt slid by, I go 4 up.
Scott bounced back with a great lag putt on 7 for an easy par and wins the hole after a shaky 3 putt, Creags 3 up.
On hole 8 I was able to drain a 12’ putt for par while Scott gets above the hole and falls victim to an unavoidable three putt. Creags 4 up at the turn after 9 is also halved.
Not sure what got into Scott at the turn but he came out on 10 and turned on the jets. After smoking a drive past the fairway bunkers he proceed to stuff his second shot on the par 5 to about 5 feet. Truly two of the best back to back shots I’ve ever seen, and he then steps up and drains the eagle putt. Creags 3 up.
On 11 I came up a bit short of the green while Scott hits a fantastic shot off the face of a fairway bunker into the green. From there I hit my best chip off the day which rattles off the stick and drops in for a birdie, Scott then hits a great putt that scares the hole but slides by. Creags 4 up
On to the short 4 12th, which with the group being good sports accepts my suggestion to play up as a drivable par 4. I hit my best drive of the day onto the fringe for a ho hum par while Scott finds the fescue off the tee and has some trouble from there. Creags 5 up.
Side note for the tournament committee, play 12 from the up tees, it’s a ton of fun.
Hole 13 I hit a pretty skanky wedge into the front bunker and slap it around from there which allows Scott to take the hole with a routine par. Creags 4 up.
On hole 14 I miss a 4 foot downhill slider to close out the match and we halve the hole. Creags 4 up.
Next is the par 5 15th by which I make a mess of starting with a topped drive and end up doubling the hole from there. Scott recovers from his drive finding the fescue with a beauty of a shot that leads to him making a solid par. Creags 3 up.
On to the #2 handicap hole 16. Scott pops but has no use for it as he smokes his drive, hits a laser beam from about 160 to 8 feet and drains the birdie for which my two putt bogey is no match. Creags 2 up.
With a match that was almost closed out on 14 now going to the long par 3 17th I’m starting to sweat a bit. We both pull our tee shots into the left bunkers. From there I’m able to get my second onto the green while unfortunately Scott plays ping pong allowing me to close out the match with a bogey 4. Creags wins 3 & 1.
Overall an excellent match and even better company. Scott shooting a one over 38 on the back was some really damn good golf and I felt fortunate to hold him off.
Also shoutout to Zeke and Brett playing a hell of a Nassau on the side that ended with Zeke hitting driver-driver on the par 5 18th for a two putt birdie and the win.
CCC is already popping off and is only going to get better as we approach the championship match. Going to be a great setting for the final. Some pics of the day:
Zeke’s driver off the deck on 18 was possibly the sickest shot I’ve seen in YEARS
Well, my 2024 OATW Match Play season is over after @methridge took me out 4&3 on what really couldn’t have been a more perfect evening at Losantiville. I could not really get off the tee for most of the round, putting myself way left and too close to a tree way too often, and hit some abysmal putts and bunker shots. I went into the back 9 down 3, but took 11 and 12 to briefly make it interesting before Mike put the hammer down and took the next three holes to go dormie.
@golf4miami venmo sent, thanks for all you do keeping us in order!
A quick preview of what @Conley76 and I were dealing with today. They were close to losing the course today.
I played @mharp at blue ash today. See if you can figure out when I went from cruising to getting a little wild.
Right around the turn huh?
I carded a 9 on 10. It was a great day to play with @mharp. We walked all 18 which turned into a slog at the end with the heat and the last few holes being sloped. My garmin said 6.5 miles with 500 feet of elevation. He was great company.
I caught him on a bad day on the front. At the same time I shot my lowest score ever on the front. I made the turn up 6 and then proceeded to shit the bed for a couple of holes. I was up 4 with 7 to go. He took 15. I think around that time we were both starting to drag a little in the energy department. I got one of two pops on 16 which I used to draw the hole. We both lost our tee shots and then had to chip out from our second drives. He stuck his wedge from I think about 90 yards to tap in distance. But with the pop I was able to close him out. That is not how I wanted to seal it and apologized profusely.
He played a ton better on the back when I started to get wild. BA is a tough driving course and it got him on the front a few times.
Blue Ash was in mint condition. I honestly can’t recall ever seeing it play better. The greens were maybe 1 or 2 slower than normal but still pretty tough with some sucker pins on about 5 or 6 of the holes.
@methridge I believe it is our turn to do battle.
Was a good time, except for that 52 I shot on the front! Thanks again for walking it with me. Maybe not my smartest decision, when I got back to the car it said it was 90 degrees out
Had a delightful evening 18 out at manakiki last night with @ThuggishJingoism24 . I jumped out to early lead and never looked back thanks to some solid ball striking and a hot putter. Closed it out 7 and 6.
@Conley76 and I played at The Legacy by Arthur Hills yesterday.
We start with both our protagonists showing up within 15 minutes of tee time after I forgot my golf bag at home and @Conley76 got called in my a customer. After some hyper quick warm up swings and about three putts for me and none for him, we were off.
Matt got 21 strokes off me. Pop City in full effect.
Thankfully we both got off the first tee just fine, but our approach play and chipping were awful. We also both got a good look at how not great it was going to be to be in the bunkers and how fast the greens were rolling. Two 6s on the opening par four gives Matt the first. Matt 1 up.
Two more solid drives on number two followed by a slightly better approach by me and a tipped second shot and a mad scramble by Matt. I was able to win this one with a bogey 5. Back to AS
The first par 5 of the day and we both get off the tee well again. Matt tops his second and me sending an opportunity tried to go for the green from 215 and also topped it. Again out approach play and chipping leave something to be desired. We tie this one with a 6 and 7. Still AS.
Matt blasts a perfect drive on this hole while my tee shot finds a bunker. After a couple hosel adjacent tries out of the bunker from me and a solid shot to the middle of the green by Matt, he takes this one with a par. Matt 1 up
Next hole is a fun one. Short on yardage, but you must pick a line with a fairway split by a bunker. Matt’s drive finds the bunker and my drive winds up about 40 yards short in the fairway. After a hosel adjacent shot from Matt and a chip shot left short for his third and fourth I was able to wedge up to 8 feet and two putt for par to win the hole against Matt’s first hole with two pops. Back to AS.
We both miss the green on the first par three of the day. I chip up to about 10 feet and Matt’s first chip goes long and his second chip runs out to about 8 feet. I drain my par putt thinking I had the hole won only to have Matt drip, drip, drip his bogey putt down the hill to halve the hole. Still AS.
Second par five sees my drive go down the left, a topped three wood and then a 7 iron to the edge of the green. Matt flaired his drive to the right and his topped second unfortunately finds one of the pot bunkers on this hole that he then has to chop out of before hitting his fourth to the left of the green. After being unable to get his chip to stop and missing the long downhiller coming back I was able to two putt for par to take the hole. Ryan 1 up.
The 8th is an island green par 3. I hit what I thought was a solid wedge only to see it hit the front of the island and hop back in the water. Matt unfortunately tops his tee shot and we both head to the drop zone. I get my chip over the middle ridge but Matt doesn’t. However I miss my comeback putt and card an 5 which allows Matt to tie me with his 6. Ryan 1 up.
Two more solid drives on this hole followed by lackluster approach shots. I get my third into the green but Matt’s third winds up just short follows by his fourth shot somehow hitting the green with top spin and running way away. Truly I still don’t know how that happened, but it gave me the hole with my bogey against Matt’s 7. Ryan 2 up at the turn.
The 10th is a driveable 4 with water all down the left. I top/toe my drive directly into the water in front of us and my re-tee driver goes long. Matt’s drive slides off the fairway to the right but his second finds the green to effectively close me out after my chip gets nowhere near the hole. Ryan 1 up.
The par 5 11th is started with Matt topping his driver out of nowhere into some tall grass forcing him to re-tee. My drive goes down the right hand side and my second finds the left of the green. Matt makes a solid effort but just like I was behind the 8 ball off the tee on the 10th, he was on the 11th. I play the rest of the hole conservatively to ensure a win. Ryan 2 up.
A solid tee shot by me finds the fairway and Matt’s drive finds a bunker. My second shot finds a bunker while Matt wedges out of his bunker and his third finds the back of the green. I don’t get my third onto the green but do get up and down for bogey. Matt leaves himself a three foot putt for bogey to take the hole, but misses. I do get a huge bullet here. Ryan 2 up.
We both flail our tee shots on the par 3 13th out to the right. Matt’s tee ball goes slightly out of bounds before coming back in bounds. Neither of us are able to get up and down, but Matt’s lag putt from 30 feet stops stone dead winning him the hole when we share 4s. Ryan 1 up.
Matt leads off the par 5 14th by finding the OB that he narrowly avoided off the last tee. Letting me play comfortably with a three iron, pw, pw to the green in regulation. I got lucky on both back 9 par 5s winning them both with bogeys. Ryan 2 up.
At this point the fact that Matt was going to get two pops on each of the last two holes was looming large. We both had our goals, me to close him out before then, and him to get to the 17th tee with a chance.
I nailed my drive on the par 4 15th and Matt topped his. A solid recovery shot by Matt and an outsanding third shot from out under a tree got Matt onto the green putting the pressure on me after I thought I was going to win this hole fairly easily. I fanned my approach shot off to the right but hit a solid chip to about 3 feet. After Matt’s par put slid by, we both had about the same distance left and we both drained our putts to halve the hole. Ryan 2 up.
Pressure on for the tee shot on the par 3 16th and I full on chunk my tee shot. Matt follows that up with flairing his tee shot off to the right. I pull out and Adolf leaving my first bunker shot in the same bunker but put my third shot to about 5 feet. Matt has to chop out sideways on his second but is able to get his third onto the surface and two putt forcing me to make my five footer to halve. Which I do not after I hit the putt too hard. A pair of 5a gives Matt the hole. Ryan 1 up with two to play.
The 17th is a cape hole with water down the right. Matt pulls his drive but stays dry and I hit my drive solidly, but just through the fairway. Matt picks a horrible time to get the tops and tops two shots in a row and pulls a horrible lie next to a bunker for his forth. At this point I’m feeling fairly good to avoid losing the first hole of back to back pops for Matt. But then he hits one of the best shots from a bad lie I’ve ever seen punching the ball out and onto the green. Pressure on again I went back to the same wedge I’d been struggling with all day and hit a solid one into the middle of the green. This pin being in one of the more slanted spots we’d seen all day I had to play my putt wide and at a dying pace to ensure a two putt par to put the pressure back on Matt. Thankfully, I found a great time to finally marry the line and speed just right as my ball died into the cup for my only birdie of the day, closing out the match 2 and 1.
I want to thank @Conley76 for being an awesome competitor and a great hang during one of the more back and forth battles I’ve had. He just kept putting pressure on me, I felt lucky to find a win. Also, huge props for him coming into Michigan and picking an absolute great course to play. If you’re ever nearby, you cannot beat this course for $50 with cart included.
@auribe14 - ready for our third match in less than a year?
FTR, I had topped enough shots on the day that I was very much trying to not do that again, and hit like 2 inches behind the ball on two shots in a row
It was a bit of an ugly battle of a day. Bunkers packed down like concrete, very fast greens, both of us having multiple lip outs, and the wind picking up at some tough times. My struggles with short putting continued, and really cost me. Overall, if you’d have told me I’d card multiple pars, and only lose one ball on the island green all day, I’d assume I won the match. Would have been nice to not have two of the three double pop holes come on 17 and 18, but that’s just how it goes. We had perfect weather, a couple of very nice older guys playing with us, and Ryan was a joy to spend the morning with. I played a ton of golf the week before and wasn’t really looking forward to playing yesterday, but outside of winning, I really couldn’t have asked for a better day
Oh, and of course I finished on 18 with what would have been net eagle lol
Sounds like the good form I saw you in all last year has continued into this year. Congrats on moving on. @ThuggishJingoism24 is a good hang and welcome addition to the roost.
@waver82 and I squared off this morning at Manakiki. I was spotting Nick 4 shots.
#1 Joe hits a queefy pop up into the right rough. Nick follows up a good drive with a fine 2nd just short of the green and chips to kick in range. Joe continues his tradition of doubling #1 at Manakiki, Nick wins with par. Nick 1-up
#2 Nick hits two more quality shots, the second a flushed iron to give himself an easy par. Joe can’t survive another push queef and makes bogey. Nick 2-up
#3 Both in decent shape with wedges into the par 5. Joe hits the green, about 30 feet. Nick hits the dreaded hosel-adjacent pitch, a shot I know way too well. Nick takes a couple chips and winds up with a double. Joe 2-putts for par and the win. Nick 1-up
#4 after ok drives we both miss the green. I try to bump a hybrid but roll it about 15 feet by. Nick hits an outstanding chip to gimme range. Joe’s putt to tie misses. Nick 2-up
#5 Nick hits another great shot to 15 or so feet. Joe hits a decel special and proceeds to bone a chip long. Nick makes his easy two-putt 3 and wins. Nick 3-up.
#6 Nick gets a rough break when his second on the par five hits a tree. Joe follows up a good drive with a cold-top 3-wood. I redeem myself with a flushed U wood that finds the green. Nick eventually finds the green but settles for a double. Joe’s par takes it. Nick 2-up.
#7 I channel Icarito and go long and left, and end up taking an unplayable. Nick has trouble of his own and ends up missing a bogey putt to win. We finally halve a hole. Nick 2-up.
#8 We both blow it right off the tee. I find the fairway bunker and have a long way in. I get nuts and hit a 3- wood from the bunker. I get out but not much more after hitting the lip. After an ok wedge I settle for a two-putt bogey. Nick doubles but halves the hole with his pop. Nick 2-up
#9 Nick hits one left into the trees that we’re not able to find. He struggles after that and concedes the hole when I’m a few feet out for par. Nick 1-up
#10 Joe hits 2 solid shots but my hybrid into the green just runs through. Nick hits his 3rd just out of the right green side but then hits a great 4th for a tap-in bogey. My bumped hybrid from behind the green leaves me about 6 feet and I can’t convert. Two bogeys, Nick wins with his stroke. Nick 2-up.
#11 we both hit ok tee shots in the par 3. Nick is short-sided though and can’t chip to gimme range. I hit a really good chip that almost goes in, easy par. Nick misses from about 8 feet. Joe wins the hole. Nick 1-up.
#12 Nick plays up the right side and his second finds the deep shit. Joe takes advantage by laying the sod over a wedge. After Nick makes bogey Joe misses an 8 footer for the win and says fuck loudly. Nick 1-up.
#13 We both make pretty routine 5’s on this par 4.5. Nick 1-up
#14 Nick loses his tee shot right and we’re not able to find it. Joe plays a solid second into the green and makes a comfy par to finally get back to all square.
#15 Nick tugs his tee shot left looks. Looks like it’s about to hit the cart path then do who knows what. Next thing we hear is @Browcoww77 ”oh my god, it’s on the green. It might go in.” Indeed Nick gets a good bounce and ends up about 15 feet away. Joe hits his tee shot short and I can’t get up and down, Nick takes advantage of the break and two-putts for the win. Nick 1-up
#16 Nick hits a solid tee shot but flies it too long and finds no man’s land next to 14 green. Joe hits a hybrid off the tee and a decent shot from the fairway to about 25 feet. My birdie putt lips out but par is good enough. All square.
#17 Nick rights the ship and makes a proper ass par on this tough hole. Joe finds the grass bunker to the left off the tee. I have no shot at the green and make a mess of the hole. A bogey keeps my scorecard from getting really ugly but Nick wins the hole straight up. Nick 1-up.
#18 Nick pushes his drive into the right tress and doesn’t find it. Joe hits a hybrid off the tee. After a mediocre 2nd shot I hit my third onto the green and two putt for a bogey win to halve the match.
This was a great back and forth match. I wished we could go back to 18 tee or number 1. We debated playing 9 this week but ultimately agreed to a chip off on 18 green. Nick hits first to a distance that I’m either going to beat by a little or blow it past the hole trying. I run mine just past the hole to a foot or two for the win.
I’m happy to win the match and proud of keeping my head on because Nick was kicking my ass early. I feel bad because the match deserved a more proper ending.
