Tron, appreciate the transparency- it’s quite literally way more than anyone could ask for.
Have you tried the Balfour quarter zip on and how does it size with the other H&B quarter zips? I have found most to be a bit snug in the belly (this is because of, well, my belly) and $140 pre NEST discount is a lot to maybe force a return which adds costs to your end and I’d rather avoid that. But I don’t want to size up and have it too big in the arms, etc.
All jokes aside I get that every color might not be viable but would love to see a charcoal or navy option. I picked up a black one at Pinehurst and it’s probably my favorite piece of golf clothing.
Thanks for asking the question. I’m probably just an idiot, but it sure seemed like there was a lot less elasticity to the Betts sweater I bought last year as opposed to the one I bought just a year prior. In my mind I had tied it to the spandex vs. elastane thing that I had noticed in the product description, but I guess that had nothing to do with it.
Balfour is very much in line with the Westland and Somerville. I’d say size up if you need to on that one. And then the forthcoming Sullivan is a bit more generous/casual, which is great. The Sullivan is like if the Ward and a Patagonia synchilla snap had a baby, but it was slightly lighter and more versatile.
On the beanie/pom hat front. I would urge patience - BIG things coming on this front.
And @meshgearfox it was a good question! I hadn’t noticed any big changes in the somerville and Balfour (other than being softer than ever) but noticed a definite change in the Betts a few years ago to make it a bit softer (I actually like the heavier/more rigid/rough fabric a bit - I still wear that light grey one on a weekly basis and bring it on pretty much every trip.
I’m sort of with you on here with qzips and sweatshirts. Their polos are the best polos I’ve ever owned. But on the outerwear pieces, I have 6 or so and every one of them has pilled or threads come out. They were kind enough to send me a replacement after the first one, but it’s happened on every single one I own.
I’m 100% in on this take, not only does H&B fit great it also outlasts in competitors in the fading department. I’ve had to toss many Millar, FJ, RLX etc. and I still have my original NLU H&B that are more than likely on their second year.
Honest question, whats the delta between the volume you are doing and the volume you’d need to be doing to justify setting up free shipping outside of the US (and specifically, to Canada)?
Regardless of volume there’s simply not a scenario that exists where we’d do free shipping to Canada and Europe. I’ll put it this way - we’re losing a lot of money on the current shipping rate vs. our cost to ship to Canada.
What we’ll do instead is set up a distributor for our most popular items similar to what we’ve done in the UK and Australia (and are working on doing with Scandinavia). We simply haven’t had any potential distributors in Canada express interest and follow-through on it yet. Is entrepreneurialism dead north of the border? Who can say?
