NLU Peloton Thread - Weekly Ride: 30 minute 2010’s Hip Hop Ride with Ally from 7/25/24

still not really a dennis fan, and had too many interruptions during this ride, but enjoyed RATM to close it out and got the PR I was after.

I did kinda peter out, and didn’t get as high of output as I expected, which means working in a few more 45min rides is probably good for me.

After adding a fan to my room due to the suggestions here I had 2 pr days in a row.

Not using a fan is real psycho behavior. Sorry if this offends. (My wife refuses to use a fan)

What if my bike is in my air conditioned living room - should I still buy a fan?

Hmmm. Yes

Mine is in the unfinished part of our basement which is always 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house. I don’t think I’d survive without a fan.

I do not use a fan either.

Really depends on what exactly I’m going for in a ride but it’s really hard not to pick Emma. Or Leanne.

Big fan of Alex’s too. But I’ve even got the Ms. converted over to Emma these days.

sidenote…anybody else find themselves needing to eat more? the last few weeks I’m having a harder and harder time sticking to my 17/7 IF cycle.

half a PB sammich at like 8-9pm is becoming a habit. weight hasn’t been going up so it’s not a big deal. I’m down about 7lbs since I started in Jan, but would like to get back on that IF cycle.

im on the same 17/7 cycle. I find it really helpful to ride either right before my cycle ends, or right before it starts. I eat 12-7, so riding at 11 or 6 ish helps me stay on track.

If im starving I try to eat pickles or some other almost zero calorie food

I forgot I took this ride a year ago. I had a big fade in the last 15 minutes but still beat last year’s ride by 88 kJ! Small improvements lead to big gains, I guess.

Also, is Alice In Chains the most underrated band of the ‘90s? Jar of Flies was awesome back in the day. I will look for more rides with them on the playlist.

Took it outside to the local bike track today to do a 30 minute power test. Been doing a mix of indoor and outdoor power zone training since late February with plans to do some time trials once racing opens up. 303 watts for 30 minutes (on a real power meter) which totally blows my PR out of the water. I want to hold this for 60min later in the summer though. Got a lot of work to do. Peloton really helps.

Revisiting this song lol.

Just saw that Peloton are going to add a pause button to on demand rides this year. Made the announcement as part of the homecoming week event thing.

From the sounds of it, the pause button has been a source of debate.

What do people think?

there’s a couple times when I’ve wanted a pause button, like when service people show up to the house when I’m on the bike.

but at the same time once you hit pause it’s really not the same workout anymore.

“you’re only cheating yourself” and all that.

I was wondering if people would use it to game their way up a leaderboard.

I can see it as a benefit for parents / people looking after kids who need to hop off mid ride but I don’t see me using it.

They’ve announced a couple of other things as well, one that sounds like a strain score like Whoop has but need to dig into that a bit more.

The fact every bike is calibrated differently already makes the leaderboard somewhat useless.

Seems like it’d be pretty easy to just add an asterisk on the leaderboard next to rides that have been paused. With a two year old running around the pause button will definitely get used.

They said trying to figure out a way where the leaderboard maintains integrity with the pause feature is still something they are figuring out which is why there is no concrete release date yet. The new programs feature looks like it will be interesting especially for someone trying to do more than just the bike.

I could have used a pause button today when I realized I didn’t turn my fan on. Instead I hopped off about 5 minutes into the ride to turn it on and hopped back on again.
