NLU Film Room: Ben vs. Soly at Royal Melbourne Composite Course

Ben is a +3 and Soly is scratch. I just wouldn’t find shooting 125 enjoyable. Doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the video.

Lucky enough to play RM West this past spring. Love seeing the vid and replaying the memory! My favorite course in the world

I’m a complete 180 here but I can see the other side. Definitely need to be in play off the tee and understand carry v. total distance to get it around there.

A few moments really took me back to tournament golf mindset: I just hit a decent shot but now I’m in this totally fucked spot, and I need to forget about it and just try not to make worse than bogey. I think it says a lot about the championship quality of RM that a scratch and a +2 each found several of these places within a single round. Awesome stuff.

Course looks incredible.

I couldn’t tell you what I shot around there but I lost 2&1 and had a delightful time. Sandbelt bunkering is something that has too be experienced just green then bunker is hard to get mind around.

Takes a few holes to understand how to stop it on a green, fades are very very very important.

“Absolute fucking horseshit” had me dying @sundaybag

Great content as always! Big congrats to @sundaybag , enjoy the new crown. Couldn’t get over the bounces of the ball on those approach shots, greens looking like concrete. Would love the chance to play Royal Melbourne, could only imagine how high my score would be.

Great content, playing RM West remains probably my golfing highlight but the tournament conditioning from the video looks like another level altogether.

Let’s get Neil and Tron into the next one, there were a few chinks in the armour from the boys in blue

“155, I’ve got a 48° gap wedge.”

That is the equivalent of a middle aged man in a cherry red convertible with tan interior. Let’s just call it what it really is, and quit jacking lofts.

I think cheering for your competitor is one of the weirdest things about golf.

I don’t even cheer for myself why would I root for others

I cheer outwardly for the good vibes, but internally I’m always like “This fuckin’ guy again.”

When someone goes down the court and chucks up a wild 3 and it goes in, at best you give em a sarcastic ‘nice shot chief’.

The world does not need to see how I chip and putt.

You must not have watched the Soly and DJ video at Marco Simone… I have never wanted to play a course less than after watching that video.

Just mi opinion, but Royal Melbourne looks really fun!

Fair point but I said “top” course - and what I meant by that was a world renowned great great golf course! Marco Simone falls short there. But I could have done a better job describing what I meant.

Also…choosing the appropriate tees would be a big impact too. Ben And Soly were playing that significantly longer than a scrub like me would.

The content would be tremendous though.
