I warned my buddies. They wont listen.
The first time I went, I thoroughly enjoyed having a caddie each round. We played a ton of golf and it certainly saved my legs and helped with mental fatigue as well. That said, I likely wouldn’t do it again if I was lucky enough to go on this trip.
So, if it’s your first time going, I’d highly recommend a caddie (even a group caddie is a great way to go).
Why not? They are a real value add out there.
For the lottery, it would be amazing if we could go full NBA Draft Lottery/Powerball on this thing.
Can you imagine? A few thousand Bandon thirsty golfers all sweating 60 spots being randomly drawn live on YouTube?
Have everyone entered via a Google Sheet to a designated number.
Throw up the clear spinning orb at the Killhouse with everyone’s number on a ball.
Fire up that live feed on YouTube and have the NLU boys drawing out #BallsForBandon.
Would donate to this cause.
Not who you asked, but I’m in the same boat. Personally, we had one caddie for two of us last time we went and it was a mixed bag. But the real reason is simply cost savings. A caddie every round is $100 plus tip, and the greens fees are $295 for the first round, $150 for the second. It adds up. Not everyone is willing to fork that up when they can easily carry their own bag - not that this is all a caddie does, of COURSE, but it’s hard for everyone to appreciate the benefit. Especially when we had a caddie at Bandon who was kind of a dickbag last go-round.
If you’re getting fit, it likely won’t matter. I did a fitting a month ago and my irons won’t be here until the end of December.
I am with you, I say get off your wallet and spring for a caddie. I played Pebble, Spyglass and Spanish Bay back in June. I received all sorts of advice saying you don’t need to spring for a caddy, I am so happy that I did.
Yeah, the problem is this crew and I have traveled to a good amount of places and our caddie experiences haven’t always been great. Some are - and I’ve been luckier than they have - but one of these guys is a bit on the cheap side, and the other has sadly been stuck with some definite bummers. The guy at Bandon we shared was just arrogant and my buddy really didn’t like him (but didn’t say anything to me until the end of the week, which I pointed out we could have swapped prior to that).
We played Carnoustie with caddies and he got some 17 year old guy who clearly came straight from the pub. I had this awesome old timer who had been there for like 50 years. So he’s not always keen to get caddies though I know he’s had better experiences elsewhere.
This go round we won’t have caddies but we will for sure have them on other trips, especially to courses we’ve never been before.
As the former 17yr old who showed up to caddy hungover, I get you.
Dormie Network clubs livestream the lottery draws for all their member-guests. But I think they use a different model randomizer than @djpie’s.
Not big on young caddies. They tend to be looking at their iPhones non stop and have that slouching, shuffling, bored approach. Give me a crusty 60 year old Scotsman any day.
Never used a caddie but this is exactly what I would want when I go somewhere that has them.
Caddies have to know the course particularly the greens. A 17 year old don’t know shit from shineola.
I think I hate this take
You may have had a good 17 year old caddie.
Unfortunately, I have not.
We all may be getting ahead of ourselves, there are shit ton of us on this thread, and a small number who will be chosen.
Duck races, probably.
LFG!!! Any particular date the lottery will go live? And any idea when the participants will be chosen/announced? Super pumped for the opportunity, this is awesome!
@Tron 's original message just stated end of September and that registration would follow. All we know for now. I am hoping most of the people on this thread forget to enter lol…Super stoked myself
No doubt! Saw his note about the end of September, just don’t want to miss the chance to toss my hat in the ring!
