Randy pimp slapping Duffer is something I’m here for.
So the tour was dying, dying. And he’s brought it back to be stronger than ever in terms of events, $$, and viewership. But yeah, you go now
Look at the venues and TV coverage. Whan did a lot.
Not stronger than ever. Almost as strong as it was 13 years ago.
Doc saves your life but no big deal you’re just as healthy as you once were. Solid logic.
Whan literally said on the pod his goal is to make the Women’s US Open purse the same as the Men’s. That would be game changing.
The S&P is 4x what it was when Mike Whan took over the LPGA. PGA Tour prize money has risen exponentially in that time. But Mike Whan breaks even and he gets slurped by @Randy and @Soly.
I didn’t realize they got paid in stocks.
You want to be contrarian, that’s your prerogative. Your arguments aren’t the least interesting. Have a great Friday!
Last one, just for fun:
Mike has spent 11 years at the helm of the oldest professional women’s sports league, shepherding the LPGA into one of the top sports brands in the world. During his tenure, the LPGA Tour went from a 24-event schedule to 34 events around the globe. Purses increased from $41.4 million to $76.5 million. Hours of television coverage grew from 125 per season to more than 500 hours in 170 countries. He also spearheaded the recent partnership with the Ladies European Tour and oversaw a nearly 50% increase in the LPGA Professionals division. Mike has also been an advocate for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program, grew from 5,000 members to more than 90,000 girls.
@anon47037505: “meh”
In 2008, the #1 player made more money than she does today. The #50 player made more than this year, and the #100 about the same. All before adjusting for inflation. But at least the middle-aged marketing guy got a million a year.
I mean, that’s fine and all. But @OnOff had to rewind his podcast when walking his dog because he blows too much hot air to actually do anything substantial and he’s Big 4 so he knows these things.
@OnOff wasnt making the comment you think he was. He even said that in subsequent posts
You okay?
I was very clear that I was not conflating his ability to lead (see below) with me not liking to listen to him talk a lot, while, in my opinion, not really saying anything. Sorry this got you so worked up that you needed to attempt to make it personal.
I’m not the one who is worked up. I’m having a wonderful and relaxing Friday evening for the record. Cheers!
You keep using 2008, which is weird, because Whan’s tenure began January 2010.
And, per Wiki, 2009 saw a reduction in both the number of tournaments and the total prize money on the Tour. Official prize money was $47.6 million, the lowest total in since 2005. There were 28 official tournaments, the lowest number since at least 2004.
That seems important, doesn’t it, @desertduffer?
This is a bad faith argument right here.
Randy, it doesn’t matter. He started in January of 2010. He then rode one of the greatest economic waves in history to bring his company almost back to where it was at its peak. If your angle was that he didn’t fuck up a great situation, fine. But he didn’t bring the LPGA to new heights. He’s like a first-year President getting credit for the economy. The work was done by others, before he got there.
Lol. You’re reaching, dude. Truly. I honestly expect better from you.
