Maxamania, Rackham GC (Detroit, MI) May 22, 2021

I am DEAD SERIOUS when I say I’m playing in a t-shirt. Probably long sleeve, but a t-shirt for certain.

Why don’t you do something different for once

Holy shit that bracket thread moves fast at times…voting now!!! Appreciate the heads up.

Have we given any thought to the Friday before golfing shenanigans? Is it just going to be a a casual “whoever shows up” type thing? Obviously we want to keep it in the surrounding area.

I’ll keep my eye out on the Michigan Group Golfer website. If there’s anything that pops up that’s relatively local to Rackham I’ll post it here. The deal is normally in the $20.00 range with a cart and the courses are usually decent.

I’d be up for Solitude Links or something along those lines. I don’t know… Just spurring conversation.

Was wondering the same thing. Got a non-Refugee that I would love to have join us somewhere for Friday/Sunday stuff.

Tell them to sign up for Saturday if they can. Get them #involved

For anyone coming from Chicago on Friday, I’m considering stopping off at Stoatin Brae for a late morning round.

You have my attention.

Would love for the locals to try and organize tee-time blocks if possible for those who are interested in playing. I am sure others will peel off and play courses in the area they want to see as well.

Let’s do it.

Also, if anyone needs a line on a 1 bed Airbnb as well, check this out. I’m in the adjacent cottage.

I am a local and I am happy to spearhead a Friday round that is Detroit adjacent.

Could host a couple of Refugees for the weekend as well.

Just wanted to jump in and say what’s up, everyone! I’m a Detroiter who plays at Rackham all the time. I consider it my home course and it’s also sort of the home for the First Tee of Greater Detroit, which I volunteer for. Hopefully will be able to make this work! If anyone has any questions, lemme know.

Also, Lafayette for life, never American.

Finally, I wrote up a story about Ben Davis for Black History Month, the former pro at Rackham and the first African American club professional in the country: https://www.wxyz.com/news/black-history-month/meet-ben-davis-the-detroit-man-who-broke-the-color-barrier-for-head-golf-pros

From what I remember last year, the courses closer to Detroit didn’t start showing up until March. Having said that, gotta read the fine print since some of them had excluded times on Friday as well as Sat/Sun.

As for rounds elsewhere, I can host 3 additional people at the UM course at the guest rate of $65 compared to the unaffiliated rate of $160. I could probably do this Friday later in the afternoon since I’ll have to work that day (sunset on May 21 is 855pm) or Sunday.

I’m in for this / able to snag a second tee time if there is enough interest. FYI twilight walking rate of ~$30 should start around 3 pm.

Really?? Didn’t know that, that’s a good deal. Does that same rate apply to unaffiliated? And how is it to walk, I’ve only played it once since it got back into golf and we rode.

Solitude is quite a hike from Rackham. However, it is a cool ass course and they have the scooters you can rent. But a more central might be Sanctuary Lake or even Sylvan Glen if you want to get more of the walking crowd out there. I’d be down for either. Just a few suggetsions, plus there are plenty of places nearby for some (in my Strapped Boys voice) beeeerrsss and some food. The Alibi, Johnny Black’s Public House, etc…

It’s only a 45 minute drive. That’s not too bad.

Although Sanctuary or Sylvan are a great deal closer. I was just thinking decent courses with a fair price.

Fair price has been thrown out the window in the COVID era. lol. Looking back on 2020 I can’t believe what I paid to play some of the courses I did, but golf was one of the few things the supreme leader allowed us to do last year so I think most of us just dealt with it. I know I did.
