Maxamania, Rackham GC (Detroit, MI) May 22, 2021

I’m about 45 minutes from Detroit in Sarnia. I’ve always loved stopping at different middle eastern places to grab food before going to Tigers or Wings games.

Lebanese food might be my favourite cuisine

One of the best things my dad and I ever did was record cooking sessions with my Grandmother. It was the only ways we could get recipes out of her

There are so many good mediterranean restaurants within a couple miles of Rackham! My personal favorite is Mr. Kabob in Berkley. It’s in a gas station so you know it’s good.

Also there’s Pita Cafe and La Marra in Oak Park, and Anita’s Kitchen in Ferndale.

Ill bring the Lebanese wine! Actually, @JBors is getting two bottles of Lebanese wine from me tomorrow morning

A group of us are thinking of doing the Mackenzie and Dye courses at U of Michigan on Friday. Who else is thinking of playing the course?

It is graduation that weekend which means it is going to be an absolute disaster logistically on campus.

@dk-87 was talking about playing in Ann Arbor that Friday.

I’ll be staying in Ann Arbor Friday and Saturday night with the in laws so if any games get together there im down.

How are you planning to get on at Rackham, do you have a connection?

Me and @Ross are interested in playing the U of M course (I mean, you’ve gotta play a McKenzie when you get the chance right?) but neither of us is an alum so I imagine it will be tough to get on that weekend (and $$$ without the help of an alumni in our group). If we did play we would drive over from Royal Oak that morning so housing won’t be an issue we could drive over anyone else if needed.

That being said if we can secure a large block of tee times somewhere I’d also love to play with a bunch of refugees locally instead of the U of M course. I know @JBors mentioned there are like 50 people interested in playing Friday, surely we could get a group of 24 at Chandler park (or other suitable local course)

I did just google top ten courses “in Detroit” and found this list:

Shepherd’s Hollow is #1 on this list and I see that @DevonCoates mentioned it earlier. Looks like it’s about 45 minutes away from Rackham (and where I’m staying) but if the course is good I’d be down to drive it. (Would also need advice from locals on whether it’s worth passing other courses to play this one)

I also googled top public courses in Michigan and man none of them are close! (At least not the ones on this list: https://www.michigan.org/article/trip-idea/play-top-ten-public-golf-courses-michigan)

The closest one is this eagle eye course and it’s about an hour and a half away.

Assuming you mean Radrick (not Rackham), UM now offers some (expensive) packages to play both courses as an unaffiliated guest.

Sounds like we have at least a few foursomes interested in Ann Arbor golf Friday (with at least 2 alums to help with greens fees at the U course). I’ll try to find out if commencement is going to affect either/both courses.

I’m local and taking Friday off. I’m down for just about anywhere. I also drive a Flex and will happily chauffeur 3 or 4 others if you want to get three deep in the rear. Plenty of room for clubs.

Not sure what the work schedule will be that Friday. Depends when my colleagues fly out.

I don’t think Friday will be that bad. No worse than a football Saturday, anyway. There are hotel rooms available Thursday night, unlike any Friday night before a home game. Playing Thursday would obviously be even better.

You’re killing me. Was going to have the wife get me an alumni discount to play there Friday, but her gift instead was to blow up my plans.

I need to get there to play the Mackenzie and catch a game at the Big House. Ain’t that right @anon47037505?

I could be in on this if there is room, would love to see them!

shepherds hollow is pretty great, always in perfect condition and a good amount of elevation, and my two cents on the michigan courses is the mckenzie is worth the price of admission and radrick is not. i would also suggest northville hills as a good option within an hour of rackham.

Im sharing an airbnb with an alumni of the university, who will be in town for Maxamania. Ill let him reveal himself if he wants

Its $150 to play U of M without someone affiliated with the university. That includes green fees, cart, welcome gift of some sort and a concessions stand voucher.
