You should have just chipped in for eagle that would have fixed everything
Hello Mudders,
First and foremost, thank you all for coming out to @SecondCityGC first outdoor event of 2024! If you can all take 3 minutes to fill out the google form below so that we can get some feedback for next year and can continue to get better! https://forms.gle/G3BupStNhuS5n2VbA
I had a lot of doubt in my head that I would be able to carry the torch from @TeddyPargame who is a gentleman and a showman for running events with 4 kids and a full time job. Really missed him yesterday and I was excited to see him relax and have fun at an event he started 4 years ago. The guys at KECC love him and so do we. Can’t wait to see him at the event next year.
It was fitting that even with the no shows and no texts that we had a field of 64 just like March Madness. Based on the CDGA results for difficulty of play out there; a +2 adjustment on scores were assessed to all that inputted their score for their index. In layman terms the course was playing at least 2 strokes higher than average? Maybe? I actually don’t know how it works.
Through the raffle and 50/50 we were able to raise $3610 for First Tee Greater Chicago. This is an amazing accomplishment and I thank everyone who donated.
Back to golf, with 64 in the field the a score relative to quota of -4 made the Sweet Sixteen. The Quota King though was @2golff in his first NLU event goes out at gets a a +1 relative to his quota of 27. Looks like all the grinding in the off season paid off! @EConroy419 reach out to Matt as his is the Mudness delegate for the Roost duel at the Ope. We can go down the leaderboard if Matt can’t make it.
The Sweet Sixteen went smoothly with the majority of the players getting eliminated by the greatest two starting holes in Illinois 1&2 which pack a punch and only 7 were left when we turned back towards the clubhouse to play an into the wind downhill Par 3 #7. This was to @BadBrad surprise as he was licking his chops at the dog leg left par 5 #3 that he most definitely would have eagled. After the Par 3 we were left with our Final Four who would duel it out on the 8th for a chance at the Championship of @tmstrods vs @golfnsloth and @Manhattan vs @dfbuzzbeater. 8 if a tough test, but was playing easier Saturday as it was downwind. Matt and Ty advanced to face off on the best Par 5 out there #9. Video of the match can be found in the google photos link below. A great match between a lefty and righty with both getting to GIRs, but after Ty’s 3 putt he pulled a Rickie Fowler and conceded the 6 foot down hiller for Matt’s 4 net 3. I am sad that a 2CGC member didn’t win our event, but Matt is a great guy and a trooper for driving from Michigan to play in 35 degree weather. @Manhattan takes the NIT spot.
KECC is a top 5 public course in “Chicagoland” and is a perfect example of how the course can maintain a low maintenance budget and still provide a great course for sickos like us. I am making a vow to get down there at least 2-3 times this year when the weather is above 50.
Adding the google photo drive for anyone who wants to relive the day and for @TCRBrad to post any worthy videos or photos to the social for 2CGC. https://photos.app.goo.gl/KvM6m2TfwKhKTnmt7
See Y’all next year 3/29/25.
But the real question is…
DOES 11 STINK?
- Yes, v stinky
- No, it rules
- Butthurt/dense
I think there is an in-between of v stinky and rules. As someone who plays a “fade”, it is not my favorite. I also smothered one on Saturday as it was my first hole. Thought it was gone for good but it ended up just outside the trees and I scrambled for bogey.
Yeah but that is a moderate take and there’s no room for rationality here
That’s why I voted for Butthurt/dense.
I thought I would be firmly decided after Saturday. But I went par-double and left just as lost as before playing it.
It may stink when you can’t take it over the trees in the summer.
Driver through the fairway, pitching wedge comfy two putt par. Great hole if you ask me.
We might have to swap 18 and 12’s tee boxes next year. For the folks who can’t move the ball right to left
Possibly plays easier at 35 degrees (meaning you can take driver straight + wedge). But think it’s a good hole for baiting some into cutting the corner to offer a flip wedge, while also providing a straight forward route with 3w or long iron off the tee to a longer approach. Green is “fun” in that you can get some wild bounces off of those slopes on your approach.
Done and done
If you put it on the right side of the fairway (I did it) you’re fine bud. Now laying the sod over the next shot is not the play, but we persevere
Oh I hit two tremendous drives on Sunday, doesn’t mean I like the hole!
I also proceeded to hit a wedge 60% as far as I should have during quota and @camgriff2 drilled a tree off my tee ball in Scottish foursomes, so a big ole AMEN BROTHER to persevering.
Drill is a very strong word but I appreciate you bigging me up like that, just another example of how great of a fella you are.
I’m surprised it didn’t go through the tree
3 wood 8 iron to center of the green, easy two putt. What’s everyone bitching about?
An exact conversation between me and BBK on hole number 14 after his tee shot was off to the right and behind a tree.
Me: “trees are 95% air right now, right?”
BBK: “oh yeah, you got this.”
I hit the tree/limbs and get hit with a “man you found the 5%”
To be fair I did ask you if you were comfortable getting over the tree first!
You didn’t have him go under like @PinkPantser ?
