Inaugural Old Fashioned: Irish Coffee edition - Tee times and Pairings post 215

Because the course is designed in a particular way. So if you aren’t playing from the correct tees, you’re not even getting the full experience of the course. Hazards that are supposed to simply look pretty are now in play off the tee. Hazards that were meant to be in play off the tee are now being carried with 0 thought on your 2nd or 3rd. Greens designed to have a mid or long iron coming into them now have you playing your 5th shot from 40 yds into the green. Greens designed to have wedges and short irons coming in to them now have you trying to figure out how you’re going to bounce a 4 iron up there.

There’s no excuse for it other than ignorance or ego. You rob the course of a reasonable pace of play and you rob yourself from experiencing the course the way the architect intended.

Generally speaking I would probably agree with you, but we’re at fall golf rates, we’re all chasing daylight to finish, and TWO groups had to skip that group because of slow play. At a resort course like this, with rangers, seems super excessive. They also almost hit me with a tee shot from the par 3 6th while I was in 7 tee box, with no warning or apology, so I’m not in a particularly rationale mindset with these dudes.

TLDR - @Joezwickl I learned today what it was like to be behind people playing the tips that had no business being back there. Tough scene. And fuck those guys.

Fun fact, Martha Stewart was in that golf cart following the sheep. Kohler Food and Wine festival going on, which also led to a very weird interaction with a dude from California in the bar. He was super excited to be out of that liberal hellscape that is California and “super pumped to be in a conservative paradise like Wisconsin.” When I pointed out Obama won here and that we’re actually pretty purple he quickly left, hahaaaaaa.

I know, I still can’t believe I’m out an 8i. Do you or @Amholzman24 know if they dredge that pond?? If anyone interested in getting wet, basically a brand new T150 8i in the pond on 2. Still made par, using my buddy’s 8i. Heyooooooooo,

I have no idea. I can ask lol.
2 stroke penalty for using equipment not in your bag. So par with an asterisk

When the club was at it’s apex directly over the pond, time stopped for what felt like a lifetime where I seriously thought I was going in after it.

Sorry to flood this space, but here is my last thought. Weather was cloudy, cold, with intermittent rain and no sun. I lost an 8i into the pond. We got boned by a pace of play situation with some dipshits playing the tips. The group we caught up to wouldn’t tee off until the group in front of them was off the green. We finished in the dark and I picked up on 18.

All that being said, it was still one of the most fun rounds I’ve had all summer because that course is so much fun and I have a big smile on my face now still thinking about it. Can’t wait to be out there with ya’ll.

Shouldn’t the caddy go in pond to retrieve it?

No dive, no tip!

I can’t either, expectations are HIGH.

Getting to play with a whole group of new Nesticles, visiting a state I’ve never been to, seeing if The Ocean Course can be beat in my Dye rankings. It’s going to be a good day!

I think now is again a great time to say THANK YOU for everyone’s kindness in the donation to Frankie’s charity and to @Ultra-Kiger @Amholzman24 for the effort in pulling this together

My wife Angie plans to be there with Frankie when we finish our round for a little group picture :+1:t2:

The money raised will go toward the Windy City angels team for chicago 2024(which I just signed up for today). This year we raised $181k

Big year next year as I’m gonna try and qualify for Boston💪🏻

Hell yeah @Ragsy47 , that’s awesome you’re still going! Looking forward to meeting you soon.

@mikedabomb sorry again about your 8 iron, sadly that pond is not dredged except for major renovations.

On the tees thing play what you should play. Working there for 7 seasons it only takes one group to f things up for everyone behind you. Yes you paid a lot of money, so did everyone behind you. Pace of play is the most common complaint we got as a staff out there. For our event a little different but my thought overall.

Lastly I’m so stoked for everyone to join us for the first edition of what hopefully becomes a fun Refuge Fall event. This course, along with all the other Kohler courses, is so special to me and it’s amazing to see people willing to travel to battle proper conditions on an underrated and proper golf course!

Welp. Just sliced open the tip of my finger cleaning an apple corer. Thankfully I didn’t take the full tip of the finger off, but it’s not a shallow wound either. Fingers crossed it fully heals in a week and a half.

If it helps, it’s supposed to be a high of 43 right now, so you probably won’t be able to feel your fingers anyway
