Golf and Photography

@alexshreff has his attached to the strap on his Half-Light bag and it works great, but his is similar to a guitar strap so I have no idea if it would work as well on another strap.

For someone completely outside the photography game, and using the M50 as example above, is there a need for the 55-200mm lenses on top of the 15-45? As an entry to the game, I know I’d want it down the road, but maybe not immediately. Worth buying at that price point, or worth picking us basic set and maybe snagging down the road?

Great question.

That 15-45mm will give you a really wide angle photo, but won’t give you really any zoom at all.
The 55-200mm is still wide ā€œenoughā€ to give you some bigger landscape shots, but will zoom in close from a far enough distance.

It’s the difference between this:

And this:

Which if you’re shooting anything that you can’t stand too close to…that zoom lens is clutch.
My kit is 35-135mm which is a really happy medium

Score. Got it. Going to need a class in photography (aka lots of Youtube videos) if I decide to pull the trigger…

Or come ask questions here
We like to think we can narrow down photography guidelines for everyday shooters. I’m self taught :sunglasses:

I would go for the kit lens and the 22mm f/2. Prime lenses are a joy to shoot with and the larger aperture is fantastic for lower light. I use the 22mm 90% of the time then use the 15-45 for the golf course

Clips onto my golf bag. Easy access to the camera. Works a treat

I guess I should be more clear.

I have the exact same clip, got it the day before I played Erin Hills. Tried to find a good spot to put it on at the last minute, but didn’t find one. I have a carry bag that I usually have in a ClicGear, but as my oldest starts playing a bit more, at some point I’ll be walking.

Do you have a single shoulder strap that you keep it on? Dual strap (if so which one)? Some other place that it clips well too?

I tried lots of different locations on the bag until I found one that worked. On my Jones it goes at the bottom of the single strap

Makes sense. Timing of the day wasn’t great for pictures when I was at EH, so I think I just threw it in one of the pockets of my bag and didn’t take it out.

I tend to have an obsessive personality and damn I wanna buy a camera so bad right now but the barrier to entry is not super cheap :frowning:

Depending on the camera body you’re looking for, I can’t recommend B&H enough for used gear.
My 70-200 isII lens was bought preowned and hasn’t done me wrong in the last 4 years.

If you have a local camera store that sells used gear that is another good option. Since getting into photography the local camera store has been a weekly stop. They have helped me out with some much more than gear.

The 22mm is great as well because it’s small and just simple, very point and shoot. I find that focal length perfect for most stuff I shoot but may be a little wide for golf. Have thought about getting a ~30mm but cropping in works, If I think I’ll be printing anything a decent size I’ll bring my other camera.

Good idea with the peak design clip, I just have a little carabiner attached to the buckle of my bag strap, hooked in to the loop of the cameras strap…will post a photo when I’m on the course tomorrow.

(these two were both M50/22mm cropped in a bit, the first one would print ~ 11x14 @ 300dpi without upsizing)

Someone stop me, or enable me, I don’t care.

I have a Canon 6DII and have planning on saving up for a 24-70 and 70-200 this year. I could probably grab one of them here in August and then the other late in the year, but now I’ve ā€œdecidedā€ it would be cool to get a drone, so I have my eye on a DJI Mavic Air 2…

Someone slap me… I don’t have enough time to play golf as much as I want to, and now I want to drop $4500 on photography equipment…

I’ll share my experience with drones. I got a phantom 3 about 5ish years ago. The thing was so cool and so much fun for the first summer or two that I had it. Then it’s appeal kinda wore off. Now I just use it to take aerial pictures for a realtor that I personally know. Other than that I don’t really fly it.

Oh, I completely expect the novelty/appeal to wear off, but I’m trying to think about how much fun I could have before that happens!

Now that I have a nice camera and have been trying to get good pics of golf courses, I can’t help but think how much more awesome my golf course pics would be with a drone… TFE’s pics always get me hot and bothered.
