that’s just in landscape auto mode too so I can grab it quick from my bag and snap a picture as I’m walking. in manual it’s a beast, on the golf course I just like to grab and go and it’s great for that.
Tim makes a GREAT point.
If you get something with interchangeable lenses, stick with that brand so your next camera body is compatable with your lenses / “glass”
@Fore20 , get the big one!
damn right…go big or go home
all these pocket cameras, smh no thank im trying to see the MOON!
If you take a cart, the DSLR is really not an issue, at least for me. If you are walking it can be a bit of a pain. I took it with me when I looped the Cradle and honestly, carrying my beer was a bigger hassle than the camera. I’d probably find some clip for my bag if I was going to carry it for 18 holes, but for short loops, it’s not that big of a hassle.
All I have is a DSLR and have only used it twice to take golf photos. Once in a cart and once at BCN.
Walking 18 last week with a push cart made it really easy with the camera. Just dumped it in the basket near the handle and had quick access all round.
Normally if I’m walking, there’s a pocket in my bag that I have delegated for the camera (and we’re just talking a point and shoot)
So ive got a friend who has a Canon Rebel EOS T3i they don’t use much anymore with a bunch of lenses and other junk. Gonna let me take it to NO this weekend and if I like it, let it go for $200.
Seems like a decent enough deal. Looking forward to joining the thread with some images not taken with my phone. Until then though…
That’s a great deal. I’ve had that camera and it will absolutely work well. You might find it bulky and cumbersome to take on the course with you for casual rounds, but you never know until you try.
Get yourself a Canon “nifty fifty” 50mm f1.8 lens if it doesn’t come with one already. Dirt cheap and such a good lens. Should be every Canon DSLR users first purchase.
That’s a good deal. I’d definitely jump on that. You’ll really be able to learn and fine tune your pictures with camera body. Lenses are where it’s at. Let us know what lenses your friend has and I’m sure we can all help make suggestions on what to pick up next.
It definitley isn’t as ideal as a pocket size camera for on the course, but I’m gonna see what I can figure out, especially with the fall coming up and a new push cart I’ve been really stoked to use.
This is one of the lenses that comes with it…

The 50 mm f1.8 is an absolute must once you get used to how the camera works etc. I would also look at the 20 mm f2.8 - to give you a bit more width. You won’t need more focal length, unless you are looking to photograph sports or do high end portrait work. Both should be able to be found cheaply.
The sigma that comes with the package isn’t fantastic optically but will be a good lens to learn on (it was the first lens I had with my first DSLR).
If it’s the Rebel EOS T3i, check out a 35-105 kit lens. It’s super versatile and is a great way to learn on that body (I started on a used Rebel XT)
few from Ballyhack yesterday…this place is so incredible, the camera on a potato could have made it look good im sure
havent gotten into any kind of editing or anything, but figured i would share a few
That place looks amazing. And no trees, perfect for fall golf.
absolutely perfect for fall golf…wide open, expansive views with awesome elevation changes…i want to go back
It’s part of the dormie network, right? So is it fully private?
correct, its one of the 5 dormie network courses and private.
i think you can still get on dormie club as a public course, but ballyhack required a buddy of @country35 to pull some strings for us to get on
Love the 6th photo in that gallery
I take it that’s you looking back at another hole, which means you’re looking around the property for things other than just fairways from the tee or approaches into greens. We like that. +5 imagination points.
That’s almost a hole that’s not a hole…mega redan-y par 3 over the tee boxes
The way this place rolls around, you could legit put together 12-13 different holes like that.
And yeah after 8 years, we had the biggest high roller golfer I knew, call his high roller buddy and managed 2 tee times for a bachelor party.
@Fore20 gonna convert to mnt golf yet
