Film Room - Spieth & Neil vs Soly & JT at Kapalua

For some reason the funniest line was when they realized Spieths first ball was in bounds on the 4th hole I think. JT goes “alright get in the cart Soly” don’t know why but we were dying laughing.

Also, big big good vibes watching that with my fiancé. We played there last summer and got engaged later that night, no big deal.

So good. Couple highlights:

-Spieth absolutely chili dipping a 5 iron into the shit. Life affirming one of us kinda moment.
-JT outta the lettuce bowl
@Soly talking about butthole puckering on the tee and Spieth is like nah.

Looking forward to this Titleist partnership. Amazing to see what these guys have created over the years.

Loved the video, and part of the reason is it reminded me so much of the extraordinary Playing Lessons from the Pros I grew up watching on the golf channel.

I think DJ has made the point before on pods that tour pros should be given an environment where they can just talk golf/golf swing/golf shot instead of answering dumb questions in press conferences.

Kudos to the team for actually allowing two incredible golfing minds to just talk golf.

PS, usually not a fan of JT’s whole thing but he actually was not as douchey on this video as I expected.

“I’ve never played here before!”

“Yeah, but you’ve played golf before.”

JT putting his own partner in a body bag on the first fucking hole >>>>

JT probably had Vietnam flashbacks to all the comments he probably gets during proams. Unlike those, he can say what he thinks to Soly.

Amazing turnaround time. I sometimes wonder if being forced to turn it around so quickly is a good thing, rather than agonising over the process. I work better with a last-minute deadline rather than long lead time (when I procrastinate wildly).

The quality was amazing. Didn’t notice any “rushing”

Spieth is the definition of “irrational confidence”.

this is one of those subtle etiquette things among good players I recently learned.

if a putt is conceded, DO NOT casually drop the ball and slap at the hole. if you miss a conceded putt, it’s particularly irritating to your opponent and you’re not likely to get the next one.

One of my friends last night declared this as more entertaining than the match and after watching it I 100% have to agree. This was excellent.

The only thing I noticed was no shot tracers which I assume was due to the quick turnaround. No complaints though, truly fascinating to hear these guys talk though shots.

The process Jordan went through to hit that 5 wood and his story about Torrey and how he cant hit one was fascinating. Then in only what Jordan can do he smokes it long left and gets saved by a truck

Completely agree. I had a senior moment last night and couldn’t remember that Rory was Tiger’s partner in The Match. That is how forgettable it was.

Give me people who know how to have a conversation, can tell a joke, give (and take) some shit, and pros having to play a hole with a borrowed 5w.

For sure. I considered making a snarky (and very much in jest) comment to @djpie about needing to start turning around Tourist Sauce seasons much quicker now. But very impressive to put this together with what I’m sure was a huge amount of footage.

Also really enjoyed the audio from this/use of the new mics. Hearing Spieth, who was on the other side of the fairway, talking about JT’s shot while JT was about to hit, etc. was cool.

It was amazing how he went through a whole explanation on how he tends to go left with 5/7 woods and then walks up to the ball, aims left of the green and tries to cut it.

You could clearly see the gears turning in Jordans head when Neil said its never as bad as it seems and never as good as it seems. The Spieth/Icarito partnership could be one to watch in 2023.
