Courses to Play in 2025

Omaha resident here. Curious to know why you have Players Club on the list? Played it a couple times (Uncle is a member).

Incredibly jealous of knowing anyone that’s a member at Sand Hills.

I’ve played there! Albeit many years ago, but it has a unique history (this is my Dad’s recollection so who knows if it is true).

The guy who financed Olde Farm originally either tried to buy his way into the Virginian GC (literally right next to Olde Farm) or straight up buy it because of the awesome rolling land. Out of spite, he built Olde Farm right next to it!

USGA listed it recently as the most played golf course in the state of Illinois, not a well kept secret anymore lol #shrinkthegame

Glencoe GC is probably the last one that is a “good value” of the ones within 45 mins of Lincoln Park and you can get a decent tee time booking a week prior; $60 walking peak season I think and the greens are usually in great shape

Now that I have had some time to think about it, I figured I should toss out my full list. After reading this, I feel like I can comfortably knock off all the close to homes, 1 or 2 of the day trips, and then LOL at the rest this year.

Yeah I am very excited. Alsothought about trying to fit in Pasatiempo, but think I’ll do that next year (hopefully @Forty allows me into the 2026 DBL DBL)

Only really been playing golf for 2 years, last year was the first time I truly felt comfortable travelling long distances to play. It’s still inexcusable, I’ve got family that lives 90 minutes from there. I am going to hit it up the week of Cornstalk, which is turning out to be an awesome week especially since he got into the Cornstalk so we’re gonna play something like Ballyneal (potentially) or Sandhills (potentially) / Wildhorse/ with his dad at Riverside CC in Grand Island/then if we don’t do the first two we’re going to play Lincoln CC/Riverside and Players Club with brother/my cousin.

Mostly my uncle lives on the course/is a member and the last time I played it I was a 45hcp (half kidding, but it’s when I played once every other year). And it’s probably going to be a 5 some of me, my dad, my uncle, my grandfather and my cousin. My grandfather is 92 and starting to slow down, potentially could be my last round with him. So maybe more the memory than the course, just haven’t been this excited in a while for really anything.

Thinking we’ll do that and either one of Shadow Creek/Lincoln CC or Sandhills ([now that I am thinking about it, he might have joined Praire Club, regardless he plays both a lot], but yeah my one cousin is the CEO of Lutz and a member of all 3). Then my uncle/myself/dad head up to play Landman in the cornstalk event

Only played 9 here with my gf and her sister 2 years ago. It down-poured so we got unlucky and I barely knew what I was going. Views were sick, so going to make a daytrip with the gf where we do a scramble and eat up there. Can’t wait

love the pettiness

i’ve played the Virginian a bunch and it’s solid. seems like every tee shot is downhill

I’ve heard olde farm is very similar but a lot more down to earth

The price tag on Canyata is steep but worth it. You definitely need to get there.

A fellow road dog. I love it.

Lot worse drives then down the Cali coast I’ll tell ya that much. And yeah I put something like 200k miles in 4 years over covid not driving for golf lol

Gotta cherish that! Sounds like the perfect group for a round and Players Club is certainly a solid course. Hope you really enjoy it!

If you have extra time in Omaha I think there are some solid munis to hit up like Benson (though it’s been a few years) or Johnny Goodman. Both pretty tough tracks normally in decent condition for munis.

Jealous of you getting to play Prairie Club and/or Sand Hills. Obviously heard incredible things about both so I hope you share your thoughts if you manage to get a round in at either place.

I’ll see you at the Cornstalk!

One of my favorite solo trips was … 2018 (?).

I was supposed to have a work thing in Salinas and had arranged rounds at Pasatiempo and Poppy Hills. Then the work thing got moved to Woodland Hills (LA area). Rather than scrap it all I just took the rest of the week off. Flew to Burbank, took care of work, played a round at Rustic Canyon, saw a show at the Hollywood Bowl, got up at the crack of dawn and drove north, played La Purisima so early that the fog still hadn’t burned off, stopped at Monarch Dunes and played their par 3 course, drove further north and played San Juan Oaks. Lot of driving but great day. Stayed the night at the Pasatiempo Inn.

Next day I played Pasatiempo and Poppy Hills. My feet were dying by the end of the ay but those are two really excellent courses. Great day.

Next morning I played Pacific Grove, then drove down the 1 via Big Sur. Spent the night in Paso Robles. Baack to Burbank the next day, flew home.

Lot of golf, lot of driving, but it was a great time.

Lived in Omaha for about 2 years, and played each like once. Unfortunately it was part of a time when I barely ever played - only started in 2022 playing regularly. I’m now realizing how spoiled my family is in golf lol

My bad! I went ahead listing courses and should have thought ahead.

You’re definitely fortunate! Make sure to take advantage where you can and appreciate those opportunities.

But if you do ever have time it might be fun for you to give those munis another shot now that you’ve started playing more.

Oh I’ll always give the munis a shot when my dad isn’t with me. Never would ask my family to take me to a course/club. Not my style. I care much more about the company I’m with than the course
