Big Cedar - Refugee Meetup - Official Thread- In Memoriam to all Trees - Part Deux (coming 2022?)

I would probably choose to walk Ozark National. It’s still going to be difficult because of the hills, but the green to tee transitions are all pretty decent/well thought-out. Buffalo Ridge is more hilly and while the green to tee walks aren’t awful…they aren’t great either. Not joking when I say ON has to be one of Coore & Crenshaw’s best routing/design jobs. They did an unreal job making a really difficult property relatively walkable.

Mountain Top is walking only, so there’s at least that round for a stroll. Buffalo Ridge could be walked if you have a shuttle from 9-10. The elevations changes are the greatest obstacle to walking BR, ON, and Top of the Rock. Don’t know about Payne’s Valley

Buffalo Ridge would be a beast to walk. I’ve played there a handful of times and have only ever been in a cart.

Ive played it 2 or 3. When go over the bridge and up the hill only to come back is the worst hole for sure. Plus that next green to tee is rough.

Just a quick update for the group on the accommodations:

I booked a 6BR spot in “Legends at Branson Canyon”. I went ahead and booked for the 1st 6 that confirmed with the house preference given 6 was probably the max to put in 1 place. Per the info I have collected (and am still trying to collect), there could be roughly 4 more looking for a house. If that does come to fruition, I do see several 4 BR houses in that same area for ~$275/night (+fees) - I’ll be happy to work with that group.

For those going the hotel route, based on the limited info I have seen, it seems most of you are looking/booking on your own. If anyone is waiting on a block of rooms, let me know… I’m not seeing a ton of volume there where a block would make sense. I also know some of you might be bringing family/friends. For that, booking a condo on the lake could be a good option as well, so might be worthwhile to look at the Airbnb option.

Hit me up with any questions!
Chris

Do we pay the resort or am I still too soon?

Yes - at the resort. The guys there have been awesome about not on the rates they offered but allowing us to be flexible on the payment (e.g. no deposit requested).

Hi everyone - Just a quick update that we now have 5 spots open. This was honestly expected as the list was built way in advance, so having 19 confirmed at this point is pretty solid. So if there’s anyone following this thread and on the fence, now’s the time to sign up!!!

My efforts here in September were to get the housing done and be able to communicate to Big Cedar if we’d need to give any of the 6 tee times back so they’d have time to fill them and not eat it on our behalf (given what they have set up for us, definitely don’t want to be a scumbag).

If you wanted to ask a buddy or family member to join, go for it, just mark it with a TBD in the google doc so we don’t over extend (or just let me know). I’d like to make the deadline of 9/23 to confirm whether we’ll need the 6th tee time, and if not, I’ll knock us back down to the 5 tee times/round.

Thanks!
Chris

@chrismarz, any more thoughts yet about the format?

Team based? How are we distributed with KC v. STL? MO vs Away? Stableford or match for some of the rounds?

Thinking I’ll bring a set of classic clubs for the Mountain Top and Top of the Rock rounds .

A friend helped with this, we can build upon it if you’ll like it and we get a name for the event!

Should we add the bass-head? Or is that too much?

I can get merch in like 2 weeks as well, will be about #'s though.

We tried to get a bass hanging from the right hand. It didn’t look good.

What about a fishing rod instead of the axe?

If you scroll up to post 68 - you’ll see the last logo (and name) I was working on with some guise. Ultimately, we never landed on the final product. I kinda feel like when we do see/hear it, we’ll all know…

Though that had been proposed, but was lazy & didn’t scroll up.

Not going to lie, I totally thought that was a cowboy hat you added to the body and not a bass head.

As I sit here now looking at the logo for the first time in a while… .seems like its jamming too many topics into an image/name… 1st you have the ode to Payne Stewart with the name “Glory’s Last (Bass) Stand” (Book by Kevin Robbins) + The Wayward Tee (NLU staple) + Bass Head… its an accurate melting pit of what this event is, but also very busy.

I do like the Axe idea, but feel like its a bit too deep of a cut for a logo for this event. I feel like this event is/will be recognized by the “Bass”… and logo/name should center around that.

I’m open to ideas, but that’s my 2 cents…

Yea, I got some quick help on that logo… I’m not the graphic artist I wish I was! I’m really just trying to get the ball rolling so someone with actual talent gets inspired

It’s a bass head? HAHAHA, I thought it was an oversized straw cowboy hat!
