Ask a question to Sasho Mackenzie

@Soly is a damn coward if he doesn’t ask this

I’d nominate this for post of the year if I could. I read it to my wife after explaining the Stack and she was cracking up. That’s quite the impressive uphill climb after the conversation starts “listen to what someone said on the Refuge.”

During the stack warm up about 1/3 of the way through we are doing a stretch where we bend over at 90° with the hips using the stack for support we reached underneath, then reach for the sky. I have been doing the stock for two years and I cannot determine if I’m supposed to do that exercise with alternating arms or just my right arm.

Have you ever considered releasing a shorter warm-up stretching routine that could be done before a round of golf?

If someone has 30 minutes 2x a week for the gym, how would you recommend they structure their workouts if the overall goal is “be better at golf”? (I.e. speed, mobility, injury prevention)

What is your advice for someone who has been stacking a while and has either plateaued or is only seeing minimal/incremental gains?

Has he ever looked into the amount of speed players have gained through working out alone? I just ordered the stack but have had noticable (albiet not measured) increase in my carry distance on course. I noticed this the past two years when I switched to a workout schedule put together for me by physical therapist that is TPI certified.

On your last pod he talked about face angle being critical in putting. Grinding in the home office this winter, what are the most effective ways to assess, train and improve the consistency of a square face angle with the putter?

Can’t help but feel hitting putts on start lines more often will help our beloved nest members more than most other things…!

Is there a point in which amateur golfers should no longer chase additional speed?

As an avid Stack user, the results have been mind blowing but do everyday golfers get to a point in training where hitting it 300 yards vs hitting it 315 yards is, to a degree, wasted effort?

Or are there longer term reasons why any amateur golfer would want to continue to add speed, even as they have passed rather high distance thresholds?

Hitting it longer than others will never fail to be good.

Sure but I’m curious if Sasho has seen things like injury risk or diminishing returns outweighing chasing distance at certain thresholds. And whether shifting focus to other areas like wedge work or putting make sense at a certain point when practice time is finite.

During the winter months I get really into powerlifting.

A buddy of mine asked- “don’t you think thats going to mess up your golf swing?”

Can you delve into this topic a little?

As him to rank his top 10 favorite golf courses. The NLU golf spotlights did this and everyone has relatively similar taste in golf courses. I’m curious what someone with such a different experience with golf as Sasho says. Not trying to dunk on him or anything if he says Butler National. I just think a lot of NLU fans are in somewhat of a bubble.

This is probably too adversarial to ask on the pod, but I think Sasho should address injury concerns. My own perception is that this is becoming mentioned more often on social channels (see e.g., AMG golf). Also, my own experience is that I’ve suffered some serious lead wrist tendinitis that is highly correlated with committed Stack usage. Maybe my experience is an outlier. But swinging the weighted Stack with full-intent energy, but with no breaking force into the ground or the ball, seems like it could be quite problematic for a lot of people.

There’s actually some thought that hitting the ball much harder than 190mph makes even tour players’ dispersion too big to be playable on all but the most wide open holes.

I’d love to hear his feedback on two things “Stack” related:

  1. Advice on how to work through a plateau during a stack program?

  2. Stack wedges with alternate monitors? I have the PRG for speed, but I practice at a private indoor Trackman facility to get reliable distance data. But because I don’t use the Stack monitor I cannot use Stack wedges.

Does the stack app really not allow you to use anything other than the Stack radar for wedges? That feels incredibly dumb, why can’t you just input the distance you hit your wedges like you do swing speed? Maybe @Soly could ask that too?

Yeah for Stack Wedges you must use the Stack Radar and connect it to the app via Bluetooth.

So even though I am hitting balls on Trackman with RCT balls to get the most accurate data I can’t use Stack Wedges.

But anyone with a Stack Radar can go to their local range and hit range balls (for basically meaningless data I might add) can use Stack Wedges.

I love the Stack, and have been following Sasho for years, this is a BIG frustration as a purchaser of the Stack.
