I was trying to talk about the “bladey eighty” challenge that @anon3021505 came up with but with my own spin on it because I don’t have a set. I could not care less about how good anyone is at golf.
Sorry, lurking here but had to comment on the doggiest of TC dog tracks that is Fort Snelling because I’ve played it more times than anyone should (FCFS tee times with a new-born is clutch).
The first hole is bonkers. Hit it 220 straight and your on the airport tarmac that will have planes taxing / taking off. Security fence says you have to stay 6ft away so even if you’re lucky enough to catch the fence and have a shot, a security truck will be on your ass mid backswing with a blowhorn yelling to get away. Landing area if you do not cut the corner* is 170-190, any less and you’re blocked out by those huge overgrown tress, any more and blowhorn guy is in play. This leaves you with 220 into the green btw, almost always into the wind.
*only know one guy who does this
I didn’t know about the local rule…and it may look pyscho on Gmaps but *nearly everybody I’ve ever seen hit off the first tee tries to cut the corner. The trees on the right are really freaking high and protect that 9th green but guys still know to keep their ears open while putting over there, balls will make it through (you think you’d get used to drivers cracking over your left shoulder and not flinch standing over a putt on that green but you don’t).
The second green is mostly out of play but you can and I have been just off the back of it, which is the best angle into the green…Tbh nearly every hole puts golfers at risk with its crazy doglegs and extremely bad golfers but most know what they’re getting into when they step foot to play at the Fort.
1 is a crazy ass par 4 that you’re happy to walk away with a 5, sometimes 6 on. The next hole is so birdie-able it nets out. My play is to start something at the planes taking off with a 90* slice, it’s the only way to hit the fairway with less than 200 left cause ya can’t go over those trees. The slice ball ends up going straight about 1 time out 5, in which case I just turn around, hop in the car and get the hell out of there.
In the battle of blue collar vibes vs stuffy nonsense, Fargo CC has decided they do not want our hard earned money. MCC reigns supreme again!
Kidding, of course, but FCC isn’t going to work out. I’m going to reach out to a links-ish course, The Meadows, here in Moorhead and see what we can get going. We’ll play golf Friday am, just not sure where yet.
Damn, we’re too cool for them anyways. Don’t know if I’ll wake up at 4-5 AM and drive 3.5 hours that morning for my nemesis, The Meadows though. Will definitely be there for Hawley though
